“Newsies” – River’s Edge Edition

Character Development and Reflection

Actor’s Name:_____________________________________________________

Character’s Name(s): ______________________________________________

Age of character (s): ___________

Use the script (and cultural history) as your primary source of information.

You will also need to use your imagination to make creative decisions about your character’s backstory: who you are, how you live, why you are the way you are, what you want and how you’ll attempt to get it.

The River’s Edge stage will come alive with big, clear, committed characters in 1899 New York City!

In your character’s “voice”, respond as thoroughly as possible (“I”).

  1. Use at least 4 adjectives to describe yourself (your character), physically and/or in terms of personal attributes.

2. How did you grow up: where, with whom, facing what obstacles and enjoying what privileges?

3. What is most important to you, “off the top” of the show, in the world of the play?

4. Who are the people closest to you? Who do you go to for support?

5. What are three things you love and three things you hate?

6. What are you most afraid of?

7. What are two goals that you cling to, and how are you actively pursuing them?

8. What do you really wish you could change about the world around you?

9. Please add at least two photos, images or drawings that relate to your character (costume, prop, housing, etc.).
