new book cover the fault in our stars

The original book cover of Fault In Our Stars

The cover for “The Fault In Our Stars” by John green is simplistic yet the story itself is not. The cover itself is interesting because it is very simple. It has an intense and bright blue background, an appeal to color and one’s eyes. More importantly, the cover illustrator plays with the juxtaposition of black and white and the opposite placement of both shapes. The shapes, moreover, are clouds. The clouds perhaps and the inclusion of the title, specifically the word ‘Stars’, in the cloud, allude to the idea that we heighten our dreams, ideas, thoughts, emotions of life and parallel them to celestial objects- the clouds and the stars. Following Hazel Grace’s and Augustus Waters’s relationship makes the reader question the plausibility in having this idea shape our lives. The color of the book cover makes me think of a bright blue sky that makes me think of happiness and a glimmer of hope. That is common theme in the book. The clouds come into play here again there are two clouds one black and one white. Perhaps each cloud represents Hazel and Augustes. The black one would represent Hazel since Hazel is pessimistic about her life. Living her life like a countdown instead of trying to live her life to fullest and trying to find something positive about her situation. Where as Gus represents the white cloud Gus is way more hopeful then Hazel is and tries to live his life to the fullest.

The new cover for “The Fault In Our Stars” represents more of the battle that Hazel fights with cancer. The cover itself features Hazel all alone in the night with the stars in the background. It also features Augustus his spirit in front of her symbolizing that Augustus never leaves. Hazel being there on her own symbolizes the grief and pain that she goes through even without Augustus there before she met him, she was always going through a battle with depression and her cancer. Meeting Augustus gave her some form of hope although she was still pessimistic it gave her a reason to enjoy her life. After losing Augustus it all comes back full circle, she ends up alone again beneath the stars with Augusta spirit watching over her. Throughout the whole entire book Hazel always brings up death it is like her whole life revolves around death she always knew that she was going to die and thought that she was going to break Augustus’s heart. The book cover represents how quickly the things we love can leave us and we end up at ground zero all alone again where it all began without that person in our lives.
