I interviewed someone named Alexi Soto. He is a inside sales representative for Seon. I chose to interview him because I first saw him at the take your kid to work day. I liked the way he pitched his product and is ideology and style of sales. He showed me his style of selling and taught me about sales in general. Here are the questions I asked him.

Why are you passionate about your job?

Personally, I believe everyone is unique in their own way, and I love to meet different personalities (Good and Bad) and try to find a way to understand each and every one of them. The fact that I can potentially have a solution for their problem brings a smile to my face. There is no better feeling than being able to create a relationship from nothing and provide a solution at the same time.

What obstacles have you faced to get to where you are today?

The only obstacle I have ever faced is “Myself”. No one likes being shut down or rejected, either over the phone or in person. The rejections or doors slammed in your face is not the factor of an obstacle, but what you do with it is what becomes the obstacle. I’m sure I you get me; what I’m trying to say is that people with throw rejections your way, but it’s your attitude how you take it is what will either bring you down, or push you up to succeed. For me, a rejection is another stepping stone to success.

What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?

Always stay true to yourself and don’t be someone you are not. People react the best to those who are honest and put customers ahead of themselves. Those are things that you either have it or not. Those are attributes that you cannot teach. Also read lots of books, “Rich dad, Poor dad” is my favorite.

What tools do you think you need for your job?

This is why I love sales so much, there are no tools that you need to sell, just be yourself and you will know if you have it or not, if you love it or not. Any training provided by whoever decides to offer you a Sales Job, is not to train you how to be a sales person but they are more like guidelines on what the company expects. If my memory serves me right, you already have the tools you need to become successful, all you need to do now, is to fill your cup with knowledge and let your personality do the work.

Would you be open to further contact from riverside students and if so, how can someone contact you?

I would be more than happy to share any information Riverside is looking for. Email would be the best way to reach me.

What I like about his way of sales is that he doesn’t put on an act for the customer. He just acts like himself. People will change themselves and not make it feel like a genuine connection. By being himself Alexi builds a genuine connection and could make the customer feel more comfortable on the call. That is what I like and one of the biggest things I’ve learned from him. It was amazing to be able to interview him as well as retain interesting and important knowledge about sale
