Science – Fruit lab results

The fruit lab was a success with finding the amount of volts each of the fruits produced.

as seen up here the dragon fruit produced the most amount of volts with 0.45 volts. The two fruits that gave the lowest results were the apple and the orange with 0.2 volts for both.

  • What kind of circuit will produce electron flow in your fruit/vegetable cell?

in this experiment the fruit/vegetable acted as a battery very poor batteries but they all emitted a small amount of power. It wasn’t really a circuit but more of a way to measure the power of a battery aka the fruit/vegetable.

 

  • If your bulb doesn’t glow, how can you find out if electrons are flowing?

You can check with a voltage-meter or try switching out your equipment bit by bit to see if you have a broken piece of equipment.

 

  • If your bulb doesn’t glow, why not?

It could be because you got the wiring wrong, the piece of fruit have already produced all the power it could or your equipment is broken.

 

  • How can we modify our experiment to improve our results?

we can measure how much fruit of each type it takes to power something by doing that we can come to conclusions on questions like: how many oranges it would take to power my computer?

 

  • What is causing electrons to flow in this experiment?

The metal conductors cause the electrons to flow. The copper conducts the electrons from the fruit juice to the voltage-meter.

 

  • How can I use this in my everyday life?

I can make my house clocks powered by lemons.

  1. Great work testing these fruits. What is it about the fruit that makes this work? Also, what other metals do you think could make this work even better?

    1. I think the acid in the fruit push the electrons from the copper onto the zinc making the copper positively charged and the zinc negatively charged. Also by replacing the copper with silver you would get more charge because silver is more conductive then copper.
