Yet Do I Marvel By Countee Cullen

I think Countee Cullen was best at making me feel what he feels.  Because his use of comparisons to the Gods, when I finally learnt what they meant and are, I could feel his pain and confusion.  I never really enjoyed poetry, but when you understand what the poet is trying to say it makes so much more sense.  When I learned what Countee Cullen was saying through his allusions and comparisons, I could feel myself being placed in his place and I could feel what he was feeling.  He’s gifted with this gift of poetry, but doesn’t get the same advantages just because of his skin color.  He feels confused, questioning, even frustrated and I could feel those emotions too, because he uses comparisons to get through to people to feel the poem, not just read it.
