Effects of climate change in the west coast

The climate change of the west coast of Canada, one of the natural disasters is the coastal erosion. The erosion will carry the soil and sand away from the shore into the sea. This will be harmful to the marine life. The soil and sediments that were carried off the shore into the sea can block the sunlight from the plants, making them weaker. The sediments may also get between a fishes’ gill and clog it, making it difficult for the fish to breathe. It could also irritate the fishes’ membrane around their eyes, causing them to be more exposed to diseases and infections that can transmit in water. The erosion can also cause the soil to lose their humus. A humus is an organic element of soil, made from decomposition of leafs and microorganisms. This can take away the potential of a plant growing.

Another effect is the rising sea level. The higher sea level is one of the main climates effects in the area. While the increase of the water level is continuing with heavy rainfalls, a form of flooding can appear on lands of the habitats of animals in that certain area. The natural salt in the water will damage the soil, making it a lot harder for the plants to survive and grow. The flooding can also make the life of salmons and fishes more difficult because they would be tangled into the flood and possibly drown. It’ll be difficult for the bears who depend on the salmon in order to survive. There’s also a chance where if there were any people living nearby, they could be flooded. If the floods keeps coming in, the people will lose their homes and their community. The flooding can cause many health problems like chronic diseases such as asthma and pneumonia.

Cause of climate change in west coast

Climate change is mainly caused by the greenhouse emissions. A greenhouse gas is when the sunlight passes through the atmosphere of earth and is trapped in and can’t be reflected back into space. When it’s trapped it will warm the earth up, when it does the extra carbon dioxide that remains and the burning of fossil-fuels overtime will combine together. When they’re combined, the earth’s temperature will rise and that leads to climate change over time.

  1. Excellent drawing showing a great understanding of biotic/abiotic factors, the four spheres, and how carbon flows through it all. Your paragraphs show that you comprehend the possible causes and effects of climate change in your region. You could consider adding more information about the amount of carbon stored and moving around in your region. Great work citing your sources.
