This is our second day learning about trigonometry. This is what I know so far.
Trigonometry is mathematics having to do with triangles. On a triangle there are three sides. Say you have angle “X.” The longest side will be the hypoteneuse, the side next to your angle that isn’t the hypoteneuse is the “adjacent,” and the side furthest from your angle will be the “opposite.”
If you have the 2 side lengths of the triangle, you can use the ratio of the sides to calculate the angle X. These are 6 ratios but here are the main 3 that will be studied this year. The sine ratio (sin – opposite/hypoteneuse), cosine ratio (cos – adjacent/hypoteneuse), and the tangent ratio (tan – opposite/adjacent). These 3 ratios can be remembered by the acronym SOH CAH TOA
