Robotic arm reflection

Robot arm – Power Tech 10                                                         Nick G

Part A

For each of the following sections, you are to reflect upon 5 specific problems that you encountered and 5 specific solutions that you came up with to assist you at that particular juncture of the project.

The sections are:                                     Research  –                            Internet and other searches

Design –                             Drafting and design

Materials –                            List and acquisition of parts

Construction –                          Tools and equipment

Construction –                          Design and modifications

The format that you choose to complete this section is up to you. An example may include:

Research

Problem

Solution

When researching, I could not easily find a simple looking format for the arm. A lot of the videos and ideas were too difficult looking.

I kept searching and I finally came across a video explaining a simple way of making the arm, and that’s the one I decided to do.

Design

Problem

Solution

The design that inspired our idea was too hard and confusing.

We decided too simplify the design and made it easier.

Materials

Problem

Solution

Some of the materials we needed were either to small or big or a little different

We cut the pieces down to size and shaped the pieces that looked different than the parts in the video.

Construction

Problem

Solution

Some things like syringes were too tight and loose too use and wouldn’t work

We were able to find everything we needed and found good working syringes.

Construction

Problem

Solution

Water from the syringes kept leaking and got the arm wet. We also had to rip things apart like hot glue.

We fixed all the seals in the syringes and got everything into its correct spot.

Part B

I learned that 1: Syringes can be used to operate moving parts of a project. 2: New ways to create one project (different designs) 3: I learned how to make a robot arm out of simple objects which can lead me to making other things. 4: The steps in the creating process. 5: When I run into a problem, there can be an easy solution to solving it.

Part C

  1. I think I deserve a C+ because over the 8 weeks, I have been helping my partner make the robot arm, an make it as easy and best as we can. We came across problems across they way and figured them out. There were times where we got distracted by things, but it was mostly I that got distracted with other things going on. I tried my best with the project and helped with parts like ripping parts of and dealing with harder parts to do. Overall I think this is the mark I feel I should get.

  1. I believe my partner Kaleb D. should get around an A because he did a lot of the work while I was away for a week and he was always focused and came up with the planning, pieces to use, and where we should put them. During the final testing, our arm was super class to putting the wood in the box and overall he was a fun partner to work with and we would not be successful without him.
