The Interview:

What is your job title?     Corrections Officer.

What is your job description?     Corrections Officer in maximum security remand institution.

What are your duties/tasks you perform at your job?     Insure the safety and secure control of remanded inmates awaiting trial.

What qualifications do you have for this job in the following areas:

  Training: Six weeks full time training at Justice Institute, three weeks full time training at institution and                       ongoing training throughout career.

  Education: Diploma in criminal justice, ongoing education throughout career.

    Experience: A combination of education and work experience in dealing with emergency situations.

  Skills and Attributes: Someone who is calm, firm, fair, consistent and has a good sense of humor.

What are some things you like about your job?     No two days are ever the same.

What are some things you dislike about your job?     Shift work and aggression.

How do you anticipate this job changing in the next 5 years or so?     I do not foresee changes in the next five years.

It can often be very exciting and intense when doing a certain duty.

Everyone gets along and works together pretty well.

There is a possibility of death due to diseases/trauma caused by the inmates.

There are more often than not uncooperative people inside the institution.

Lots of paperwork when a problem happens, like a fight for example.

Is this job for you? Why or why now?     I do not believe this job is for me because I’ve always preferred construction more than law enforcement.
