Has racism changed from back then compared to now? Yes, I would say it has, but there are still many problems to this day that occur with it. Of course, nowadays it’s much less severe than back then, but there are still a lot of things that could be fixed. As we all know, slavery was a big part of racism in the earlier times, with some kids being captured as early as only a couple of years old. This was easy for the Whites to do because they had a lot more power back then than they do now. A lot of violence happened back then as well, with Blacks having the highest death rates even in recent years.  When the Great Depression struck America, half of the Black population were out of jobs by 1932; it had got to the point where Whites would fire Blacks solely for the reason that there were other Whites without jobs at the time. Voting was even directed more towards Whites. In this time though, the Blacks also revolted against the Whites, with up to 313 revolts to date. Reports of slaves escaping and freeing others were common as well, with the largest one being the Stono Rebellion, in 1739, on a day free of labor, around 20 slaves gathered at the Stono River and raided a warehouse, killing all of the white owners and displaying their heads for all to see.

Although racism now is less extreme, it is still very prominent and visible in our society and the societies around the world. Stereotypes may not be as strong as before, but they still affect a lot of the world population, with Whites being assumed to be rich, Blacks being assumed to be violent, and Muslims with beards being assumed to be terrorists, regardless of their job, family state, or financial situation. With all of this though, lots more people are reaching out to help others than back then, and people are much more accepting to races than before. Racism now is also used a lot in humor, and racial slurs are also not always taken seriously.

All in all, racism has died down much more than in the earlier centuries, and help is being given at a much higher rate; and even though it is all still a very important problem, I believe that with time, we will be able to slowly start to unify together, with the help of everyone.
