Video Quality might be bad because I had to edit on my phone.

Observations:

I observed that plastic had no effect on moving the can like the other 2 materials did.

I also realized that hair had the most result. Does it have anything to do with the way our hair is made? For example like if our hair when it grows also produces more charges with it.

Community Connection

For this project I interviewed Zane Jones. Zane is 25 years old and plays LW/RW  for the Evansville Thunderbolts in the SPHL (Southern Professional Hockey League)

Why are you passionate about your job?

“Hockey has been my passion my whole life, very lucky that my obsession pays me money.”

What obstacles have you faced to get where you are today?

“Obstacles are very common for any Athlete. Most commonly would be injury, very hard to get injured and come back with the same drive as before.”

What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?

“Never give up. Ever.”

Would you be open to further contact from Riverside students and if so, how come someone contact you?

“Absolutely! On Instagram.”

(My own question) Do you plan on continuing and advancing through your career?

“Yes I do, I am 25 years old. Plan on playing until my body allows me.

(My own question) How long have you been playing for?

“I have been playing hockey for 21 years. 3 years professionally.

Getting a response from a hockey player is inspirational for me because I use to play hockey in a league before my life got very busy with school and activities out of school. This was inspirational to me because he mentioned to never give up no matter what what happens and to keep fighting through the obstacles that will try and stop you. Mr. Jones went out of his time to help me finish my project and answered the questions I had for him. I am appreciative that he actually reached back to me. It was nice to interview a semi famous hockey player and not some very famous hockey player because Zane Jones is still growing and advancing through his career.

Fictional Safety Story

On April 23rd we did a project involving bugs. My group got to take a look at a spider while some other groups were looking at other bugs such as: flies, ants and cockroaches. For the first part of the project, we were looking at the spider up close using the magnifying glass. We were going to use the compound microscope to zoom in on it but, that would mean we would have to put it on a glass slide to hold the spider in place and there was no way I was touching that spider. So, after examining the spider close up we saw some interesting things and wrote it down on our paper.

I thought I was the spider moving but I guess I was just being paranoid so I just forgot about it. We then put the spider in a test tube just to keep it in there so we didn’t lose it and then we put a rubber stopper on top of the tube to make sure it didn’t fall out. When I came back to our station I saw some cool looking chemicals on the counter across from the table I was sitting at. On the test tube rack, there were two symbols. One of them was a warning for the chemical being flammable and the other one was a caution for poison.

I wondered what those chemicals were used for, they looked cool and had some nice bright colorsI then proceeded to mess around with the spider, I took the rubber stopper off the top and was just taking a good look at it. I then brought the open side of the test tube up to my face and that’s when everything went wrong. When I brought the test tube closer, the spider started slowly moving. I reach for the rubber stopper in panic but I couldn’t remember where I left it.

After taking too long the spider eventually started climbing out of the tube then started climbing up my arm. I hated spiders and I was so afraid of them so I started bumping into a bunch of things. I ended up bumping into the test tube rack that had the warning of the chemicals being flammable! A little bit of the chemical got onto my arm and it was burning a little, I didn’t even bother washing off because now there was a fire on the counter! I quickly ran and got the fire extinguisher and quickly put out the fire.

Mr. Robinson comes back from the washroom and sees me putting out the fire and quickly comes to help. After the fire was extinguished, I didn’t even mention to him that a bit of those chemicals got onto the skin of my arm. I explained to him what happened and he understood the situation. We then cleaned up the mess I made and everything was okay now. I am never taking a close look at any bugs again.

Grammar Video Project -Subjects and Predicates

Subject is the object or person that is described in a sentence. Predicate is the action or doing of the subject in a sentence. For example when a subject is travelling somewhere these are often used. Simple Subjects are less descriptive words used to describe the subject. Complete Subjects are when the subject has more detail about it. Simple Predicates are less descriptive words used to describe actions. Examples: run, walk, fly. Complete Predicates are when you use more descriptive words to replace the boring/simple action words. Examples: Sprint, marched, glided. We enjoyed doing this project because we learned actually learned a bit more ourselves about subjects and predicates. We hope we learn many more different grammar rules from everyone else’s videos.

(Examples for class)

Determine if the sentences below are simple subjects or complete subjects. (Remember, complete subjects describe the object or person)

  • The dog chased the ball
  • The greedy boy did not want to share his candy
  • The old loud race car drove down the streets.

Determine if the sentences below are simple predicates or complete predicates (Remember, complete predicates use more descriptive words than the average movements)  hell

  • The dog sprinted to the ball
  • The boy played soccer at school
  • The race car zoomed through the streets of New York
