Here is the link to the essay I read.

I was interested in reading this essay, because of the theme and subject of growing up, since I am  just about to do that in grade twelve. I really enjoyed how the author, David Sedaris used a lot of rich vocabulary, ” grabbing indiscriminately”, as it hooked me into the story. Also, he illustrates the story descriptively while using a lot of strong verbs and figurative devices, “I panicked by the thought of her hand on my doorknob, I tore off the wrappers and began cramming the candy bars into my mouth, desperately, like someone in a contest.”  A deep connection I made with this piece of literature was the idea of maturing and growing up, and how our understanding of others and the world around us increases as we get older and how we can truly see others for who they are based off of first hand experience. David Sedaris reveals that relationships is part of the human condition.
