Here is the link to the to the essay I read.
I was very pulled into this essay because of the title – “The Practice of Slowing Down”. I wasn’t sure what this meant, but I eager to find out. I really liked how the author was straight forward. He explained his main point quickly, but with clarity. He used a complex metaphor to show how he was taught to take a “rest step” while mountain climbing and applied it to everyday life. The author highlights the human behaviour when one is put in an urgent situation, that “the practice of slowing down offers calm and clarity” rather than freaking out and panicking. This reminded me of a coaching book I read about how when one is under pressure, in a fast paced volleyball game, instead of rushing to hit the ball when they are set, to just walk, take their time, and then explode to the ball. Saving energy and offering calmness in a situation of stress.
