Desmos Portrait 2018

For my desmos portrait I figured out which equations to use by playing around with all of them for quite some time. I had a lot of trial and error but the desmos dance moves page really helped me by showing me what equation made which shape. Also, domain and range really helped me with creating the lengths of each line I wanted for my portrait. My main challenge would probably be starting off. I didn’t know where to start and missing the lesson where this assignment was assigned challenged me a lot to figure out everything and what to do. Another challenge would be flipping the lines. For example, if I did one eyebrow on one side, figuring what to do to the equation to get it on the other side of the graph symmetrically was a struggle in the beginning, but once I figured out which signs to flip everything fell into place. I started with my head shape, using the circle equation, then onto my hair using quadratic and square root equations. After, I did my eyes using more circle equations. Continuing, I did my eyebrows using linear equations and reciprocal functions, then, I did my eyelashes using different linear equations. Finally, I did my nose using a cubic and quadratic equation and my mouth using a quadratic equation. A strategy I used was to really use the desmos dance moves to see what would happen with each equation. This assignment helped me to learn that functions and relations can be used for more than for math, and allowed me to understand and visualize each equations graph. It was a great way to see each representation of an equation. I really enjoyed playing around with it.
