this is a power point (I couldn’t figure out sway) demonstrating the just of the technology used in WW1. Representing through the methods used in the war in the air, on land, and at sea, these are some of the strategies and weaponry that was used.

what is a genome?

Firstly, a genome? A genome is the genetic material in the organisms DNA and can be seen as the “blueprint” for life, it provides the structure and function for all living things.

What is a genomic?

Now a genomic? The idea of genomics is that they play a very important role by connecting with every aspect of our lives. A genomic is known as the science that aims to understand the entire genetic information of organisms such as plants, animals, humans, viruses, microorganisms and more. The knowledge of this field is advancing in finding solutions to complex biological challenges such as for health, forestry, fisheries and aquaculture, mining energy and agricultural foods.

forestry is a huge aspect in Canada however there are unfortunately many threats to trees such as various bugs and harsh climate change. Genomic research is being used to show us how to build stronger and healthier trees that will be able to adapt and live in these dreadful conditions. in the case of the “pine beetles,” these beetles affected 14m hectares of forests in BC, the use of genomics are showing how to initiate the problem, advancing into how to turn those trees into biofuel to better them.

Socials 10- perspectives on Canada being multicultural

This is a photo of a Chinese restaurant located just here in Coquitlam. I chose to use this as an example on how immigrants, in this case Chinese immigrants, are able to “maintain their culture” after immigration. throughout Canada, there is a huge variety of different cultured restaurants to choose from. Now this specific restaurant may not be one that is said to “maintain culture” because being in Canada, food is bound to be cooked a little bit differently and may not follow all traditions of the culture but in my opinion, I think that this shows how Canada is a multicultural country, willing to accept and recognizes all races, in the means I think that coming to Canada as an immigrant from wherever, you would be able to eat out and not just be limited to home cooked meals or other forms of food makings. by this I think that having these different varieties of restaurants helps to encourage immigrants to keep their culture.

I was inspired to search for a story of this sort based off of a book I read in English class. the book is called Persepolis and it is a true story experienced by the author, explaining about her life as an Iranian girl whom was very religious. The story took place from her starting at age 6 and finished with her as 15. throughout the story, as she’s growing up she goes through a lot of terrible things all because of her religion, there are attacks on her and her family, her school gets stricter about her religion and she is forced to dress “over appropriate,” in the means of all of this, she basically had to grow up as no child should, just because of her religion. So this story that I found is about a 6th grade Islamic girl living in Toronto that was assaulted by a man whom has began cutting her hijab as she walked to school. The poor girl was frightened and began to scream, forcing the man to leave but sooner or later, unfortunately he returned and continued to cut. I know that Canada is said to be welcoming to all races but I think that saying all of Canada has those characteristics is a bit of an over statement. I believe that this article proves that not all people are this “kind hearted soul” willing to welcome everybody and support equality which shows an example of something that discourages immigrations to maintain their culture.

 

based off of these two sources I still do believe that Canada is a multicultural country in the sense of Canada as a whole. however this doesn’t mean that every single Canadian follows these assumptions but I dont think that takes away the aspect of the term multicultural. mainly because we are talking about a country and the pieces that put it all together, not just some people that are against this topic. Canada has many attributes that fit different races and provides equality to all despite race or religion so for this reason, yes I do think that Canada is to be considered a multicultural country.

I chose to use this picture as a resource of Canadian identity because it has a lot of the typical Canadian symbols as well as our colours. By having these symbols, it reflects on my perspective of Canadian identity by showing the little things that makes Canada, Canada. I think this is a somewhat accurate portrayal of what it means to be Canadian because of the symbolism, though not fully accurate, because I feel that equality is a big piece of the Canadian identity and this photo doesn’t really show that attribute. It shows what physical pieces make up Canada but not so much the work that is put in by Canadian citizens to give Canada the image that people reflect off of. If a different cultural background were to see this picture, I feel they would have a different input on their point of view. when I look at this photo I see all of the symbols that make up Canada. where as if some one that wasn’t as familiar with the Canadian identity could say they see a bunch of symbols but not be able to recognize or identify the meaning of each one.

chose to use this video as a resource of Canadian identity because I liked that the makers of the video used stereo typical Canadian slang, symbols, phrases, actions etc. and combined this with exaggerated comedy to get their point across of what the Canadian identity is like. The use of comedy to emphasize the message reflects on my perspective of Canadian identity showing that every little thing we do or say as Canadians adds to our identity as a whole and shows that we have a unique way of living life. in my opinion, the idea that we do these certain actions or say certain things portrays an accuracy of what it means to be Canadian. if someone of a different cultural background were to watch this video, their perspective of the video would not be the same. The comedy and hysterical area of the video could differently impact them because they might not understand the jokes or the reasoning for the clip to be in the video.

week 18 in math 10

this week in math 10 we spent the week reviewing what we have learned throughout the semester in preparation for the final. I completed the review package A and B on my own time, and in class. my questions or misunderstandings were answered during class time when we went over common questions as a class. throughout this week I realized which units I needed to review more thoroughly and which units I fully understood. to help with review, with partners,  we also used an online website “quizizz.com” and entered codes based off of the unit we wanted to study. I completed the quizzes for measurement and functions with my partner.

week 17 in math 10

this week in math 10 we started our unit on “systems of linear relations” I learned that a solution is the point on a graph at which two lines meet. depending on the relation of the two lines, there can be 1 system, infinite systems, or no systems at all. there is one system if the slopes to not match, there are an infinite amount if the slope and y-intercept of the lines match, and there are 0 solutions if the slopes are the same because this would represent parallel lines.

to find the solution of two lines we can use one of two methods, we can use the elimination method or the substitution method.

do demonstrate substitution for example we have the lines

8x-3y=10 , x-y=5

start off by choosing an equation of the two to isolate either y or x.

x-y=5 now turns into x=y+5

now we take the other equation 8x-3y=10, and replace x with y+5, becomes 8(y+5)-3y=10 , distribute the 8 into y and 5

8y+40-3y=10, combine like terms and isolate the variable to find the y coordinate.

8(y+5)-3y=10

8y+40-3y=10

5y=-30

5y/5=-30/5

y= -6

now to find the x-intercept we go back to one of the original equations and replace all of the y’s with -6

x-y=5

x-6=5

isolate the variable

x=-1 now we have the solution of these two lines as (-1,-6)

no verify this, we input the x and y into both original lines and if they are both equal then the question is complete

 

now to use elimination, a much quicker method.

we have the lines 2x+3y=7, 5x-3y=28

we can either add or subtract the two equations, the goal is to get two of the terms to cancel out to make the question simpler

2x+3y=7

5x-3y=28

add the equations together, in this case, +3y and -3y are opposites so they can cancel out and we are left with

7x=35 now isolate x

so x=5. now we input 5 into one of the original equations, replacing all of the x’s, to find the y-coordinate. then verify by inputting x and y into both original equations as we did for the substitution method.
