About a month ago I had no idea what a digital footprint even was. Until Mr. Barrington walked into my classroom and asked my class… What is a digital footprint? no body really knew so we talked about it and I realized how your digital footprint can control your life in the future.
- How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities?
Well if you have never really heard of a digital footprint you wouldn’t really think twice before sharing or posting what your doing or a cute photo of you with your friends. It could affect you in your future… For example, I could be applying at a job and there trying to find a mature and responsible person. You go for a interview and it goes great they say “we will get back to you if you have got the spot or not.” But did you know they look at your social media? So they check it out, and see something on my social media that makes them realize they don’t want to hire me. Another example could be.. I just moved to a new school and I met all these new people. Im trying to figure out who I really want to become friends with. So after school I go and look at there social media and they’ve posted something i don’t agree with or like . Now I no longer want that person to be my friend because now i think of that person differently. Think about how your digital footprint will appear to other people…
2. Describe at least 3 strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint safe…
1. Really think before you post something because you never know who will see it in the long run… Never post things that you don’t want others to know about or that you wouldn’t say to someone’s face.
2. Keep your personal details private!!!!
3. Always ask your parents before giving out your name, address or phone number online.
3. What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?
One thing I would pass on to other students is that… Yes its so much fun to post silly things and for your friends to see what your up to, but even if your on private sometimes being on private doesn’t really mean your totally safe and private. So my advice is honestly just always be aware because social media can get out of hand sometimes and remember that your digital footprint could set up your future….. Be aware of your online image!
