This week in Math 10 we finished off our polynomials/factoring unit. During this week we mastered all the different types of factoring and did the practice tests in preparation for the unit test.

This was a question I had problems with in the practice test:

This question was asking you to find the area of a rectangle when the side lengths are 6-a and 8-a in order to do this you need to multiply the 2 side lengths to do this you need to use the FOIL/Claw method. When I did this question at first I got confused because usually the terms are in the pattern of a^2 then a and then nothing but this time the trinomial was ordered backwards. when I factored out to check I kept on getting a different answer but then I reordered the trinomial then factored, then it finally worked out.

New Steps:

  1. evaluate
  2. reorder
  3. factor back (to check)
