How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.
My digital footprint can cause people to perceive me in several different ways. These ways can both influence my future
Another example of my digital footprint interfering with my future opportunities would be if I decided to apply to a university. The directors of admission might see to it that my digital footprint gets glanced over before considering other possible candidates. This could work out as a positive thing if the admission officers were to go through my academic achievements found online. This action will without a doubt encourage the admission officers to more critically consider accepting me into the university. By viewing my educational accomplishments via digital footprint, they will be more provoked and persuaded into recruiting me as a student at said university.
Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.
Three strategies that I can use to make sure I attain and maintain a clean and appropriate digital footprint would be if I, first off, didn’t post inappropriate, improper, and unnecessary pictures/ videos/ tweets etc. These, in my opinion, are a waste of time and energy and in the long run might possibly even put my future at stake. It’s not worth it. Another strategy I can use to ensure my digital footprint stays safe is inform all my friends, family, and peers not to post anything regarding me without my consent. This will certify the safeness of my digital footprint and will prevent unexpected turns at future job interviews. A final step I would take in establishing a proper digital footprint would be to check my privacy settings on a regular basis. By checking my privacy settings once, maybe twice, a month, there will be little to no chance of my settings being altered without me knowing and quickly changing it back.
What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?
Some information I would share with other students would be not to post or publicize everything they do. Having a level of
privacy and being able to set boundaries can really come in handy when social networking, especially in the future. I would emphisize that everything they do / post on social media sites can and most likely will be traced back to them at some point in their life so they should be careful. I would also warn them that, with the things they do post, information can be stolen and reuploaded by fake accounts so its best to
consider what you’re posting before you post it and put all personal accounts on private. Lastely, I would just remind them to stay safe, act appropriately and be careful because the internet can be a scary and unfortunate place.
