What’s in My Junk Food- Chocolate Ice cream

Ice cream is a great dessert for anyone. I like ice cream because it contains a good amount of flavourings which makes it tasty.

There are 5 main ingredients in Ice cream, Salt, sugar, milk, cream and vanilla extract. One thing that makes ice cream bad for you is the milk fat. Ice cream contains over 10% M.F in order to be designated as Ice cream. Milk Fat contains a large amount of cholesterol (saturated fat). When your blood cholesterol level is too high, it can build fatty deposits in your and can raise your risk of having a heart disease or stroke. Ice cream is also quite high in sugar, which makes up the majority of its carbohydrate content. Too much sugar may contribute to health problems such as weight gain and/or cavities.

May Reflexion Lasagna Roll-Ups

I chose to reflect on this lab because for me, it was the most complicated one of the month. Mr. Brett didn’t do a demo, so we had to pay close attention to everything we did. Also, I found that the lasagna rolls-ups were the best tasting lab we have done. Yes, I had a lot of fun cooking the lasagna roll-ups, I enjoyed putting all of the ingredients onto theroll-ups, and I also enjoyed rolling them up. Yes, our product turned out the way that we had hoped, despite the fact that some of the ends of our lasagna broke off while cooking, we managed to make the most of it. I think that the spices we added made it taste really good. Yes, my group worked well together during this lab, everyone did their own job in the lab and we made sure everything got done on time, the lab was harder because we were missing ome person, so we only had 3 people. If I were to do this lab again, I would be careful, so that the noodles don’t break while cooking. I would also lesve out the cottage cheese, as I don’t really like the taste or texture. Overall, I was very impressed with our lab and how our final product turned out.

Our Final Product:

Great Chili Cook Off Reflexion

When we first started the great chili cook off, I was worried that we wouldn’t have enough time to complete the lab, as our chili needed to simmer for three and a half hours, and we only had 30 minutes to simmer, but in the end our chili turned out just right. On day 1 my group worked well together to find a good recipe, when we found one, everyone was helping to convert it. Day 2 was the demo for the cheese braid, and I was afraid that we would mess up the cheese braid because we had no idea what to do. After the demo my group worked hard to measure out all of the ingredients for the chili cook. We added tomato’s to give us strong bones, vitamin A and fiber. We also added beef to give us protein. The spices that we added are cumin, cinnamon, chili powder, brown sugar, oregano, paprika and salt. The brown sugar balances out with the chili powder and made our chili sweet yet still spicy, We added salt to bring out the different flavors in our chili. The process off cooking the chili went well, and the end product tasted great, I believe that all the spices we added helped to make it taste great. If I were to do this lab again, I would give the chili more time to simmer, so all of the flavors can be brought out.

Baked goods lab reflexion

When we first started our chocolate cake lab, I was concerned that our product would not turn out as expected. I was also concerned about the amount of time we had to complete the lab, but our process went well, and we all stepped up and did our duties. I was very happy with how well my group worked, we were missing one person, so we all had to do a bit more work. We substituted white sugar for brown sugar, and although it tastes good, I think that it would have tasted better with white sugar, other than that I wouldn’t change a thing. To conclude, I was very happy with how our final product turned out, and I would definitely consider making this at home.

March/April Lab Reflexion

I chose to reflect on the Chicken Yakisoba lab because for me, it was the most complicated ones we have done thus far, I also worked very hard and made sure we followed the recipe as best as possible. It was also the first time I have ever cooked with a wok so it new and exciting, yet challenging. Yes, I had a lot of fun cooking the Chicken Yakisoba, I enjoyed putting all of the vegetables into the wok, and listening to the satisfying sound of the onions sizzle. I also enjoyed not having to do the dishes as I was special duties. Yes, our product turned out amazing! The soy sauce and chile paste really helped bring out the flavour, and the noodles were cooked perfectly, so it tasted wonderful. Yes, my group worked well together during this lab, everyone did their own job in the lab and we made sure everything got done on time. If I were to do this lab again, I wouldn’t add the mushrooms. Mushrooms are one of my least favorite vegetable and I feel it brought down the taste of the meal for me, however, I would add a lot of other vegetables such as peppers, broccoli, celeries and beans. Overall, I was very impressed with our lab and how our final product turned out.

Salad Rolls!

1. Yes, I enjoyed this lab. It was nice to cook something that I didn’t know how to and to taste something new, however, I did find the lab to be a bit completed because of the rice cakes; we had to make sure that the rice cakes weren’t too soggy, but at the same time not too hard.

2. I would add chicken because of its unique taste, chicken is one of my favorite meats. I would also add it for the amount of protein, niacin and selenium. It is also a good source of selenium, vitamin B6, phosphorus, and vitamin B12. Another thing that I would add is tomatoes, I love the taste and texture of tomatoes. They are a great source of vitamin C, biotin, vitamin K, copper, potassium, manganese, dietary fibre, vitamin A, vitamin B6, folate, niacin, vitamin E and phosphorus.

3. Deep frying our foods adds saturated and trans fats. It also adds ALOT of calories. Fried foods clog arteries and lead to strokes and Alzheimer’s. Clogged veins and arteries cause heart attacks and aneurysms. If you eat deep fried food, you are at a higher risk for higher cholesterol levels, obesity, heart attacks, and diabetes. Overall, we should stay away from fried foods for a better and healthier diet.

3. Mushroom and Spinach Omelette.

A veggie-stuffed omelet makes for one easy, satisfying dinner when paired with a simple side salad. While the cooked spinach mixture sits, it may give off some more liquid; strain this off to keep the omelet from becoming watery.

(I have decided to make the eggs Benedict.)

February foods10 reflexion – Granola Bars

I chose to reflect on the granola bars lab because we were missing 2 people for this lab which made it the most difficult lab we’ve done. Yes, this lab was a lot of fun, I enjoyed smelling the granola bars cook, I enjoyed mixing all the ingredients and I also enjoyed pressing the granola down into the pan. Yes, our product turned out the way I hoped and tastes delicious. I believe that it was because we put it in the oven for the perfect amount of time because the bars were golden brown when it came out of the oven. Also, we followed the directions perfectly. Yes, my group worked well together during this lab. We did our part in the lab and made sure everything got done on time. There were, however, some issues with deciding who would do what job considering there were only two people, so I was dish dryer and unit manager and my friend was dish washer as well as special duties. I chose the granola bars lab again, I would make sure the oven was reheated before we went for the ingredient because we did forget to do that. I would have also done the lab faster so that the pan could have had more time to cool before we ha to put it in the fridge. Overall, I was very impressed with our lab and how the granola bars turned out.
