The Cellist of Sarajevo

 

In The Cellist of Sarajevo, author Steven Galloway tells the stories of three people in the war torn town of Sarajevo: Kenan, trying to get water for his family; Dragan, travelling to the bakery where he works to get bread; and Arrow, a sniper, trying to protect the cellist from the enemy snipers.  In this novel, Galloway writes about the hardships of war, and how important it is to stand strong and keep your humanity in times of conflict. These three Sarajevans tell us of the difficulties they must face to simply survive in their city, the fears they have, and how their strength will be necessary for the rebuilding of the city.

Will these three simple people be the life of the city, or will they soon see the death of it? In this  novel, readers enter the world of a troubled city with citizens who use their strength to see the city for what it will be when Sarajevo rises again.
