Literal Meaning:
The Literal meaning is about a boy who is talking about his dead brother (John) and sister (Jane) to a maid.
Imagery:
Image 1: “Two of us in the church-yard lie”
This meaning of this is this shows where the dead brother and sister lie, where their graves are
Image 2: “Then ye are only five”
Earlier in the poem, it states there were seven people. This means that that when the poem gets to the five people part, it signifies either two left, or died.
Image 3: “If they two are in heaven!”
This means that they are talking about John’s and Jane’s trip to heaven.
