How can Proper Disposal
Help Climate Change
#1: Over the last ten years how has pollution affected climate change
#2: Are cigarettes the main cause of forest fires In B.C and Alberta
#3: Has not throwing out garbage resulted in any fires
#4: Has the introducement of compost affected climate change
#5: Can putting all of your Garbage into the trash can and all of your compost into the compost help climate.
#6: How has garbage not being thrown away affected climate change
1:Air pollution is very much connected to climate change. The extraction of fossil fuels. That causes CO2 emissions. The pollution has increased a lot in the past years and it is one of the main causes of climate change. Pollution is a simple occurance of either garbage or when something is not put into its proper place. Some examples are not throwing garbage into the trash can but leaving in the grass. There is also something called air pollution which is when the factories extract fossil fuels and that goes into the air and cause co2 emissions. With both of these pollutions adding up it really does affect climate change and the world.
2:40% of the forest fires are caused by ciggaretes. This can happen when someone is driving by and they throw the pit of it and it is still lit. When this happens something can catch on fire. So if you think about it we would have almost 50% less forest fires by throwing things in the correct spot. Now the other 60% is from naturally caused wild fires such as lightning. When it strikes it can ignite a tree with its heat. Half of the wild fires we cant control but we can control the other half. So this affects global warming also. So the big way we can reduce climate change by not being ignorant and throwing our cigarettes out in the garbage.
3:The answer is yes. Cigarettes are garbage and they are one of the main causes of forest fires. But not throwing garbage out also causes pollution and that affects climate change. Cigarettes have caused so many fires over the years. The way that we can help this change is by being careful of what we are throwing out and knowing if it is going to affect the planet.
4:Composting does reduce climate change because it prevents the release of methane. The less methane that is released the better it is for climate change. Methane is a greenhouse gas and on earth we want to use as little of that as possible. You want to waste as little amount of greenhouse gasses as possible. In Australia about 700000 tonnes of organic waste was composted in 2012. Evert tonne of organic waste composted= one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalents that can be found in the form of methane. Also one important part about composting is composting the correct items. There is no point of this if you wont do it correctly. So the answer is yes. The introducement of compost has increased methane amounts over the world
5: Think about this if you had a candy wrapper in your hand and you had a garbage bin right next to you would you throw it out? If you said no because its no big deal then your wrong. If you do it every one in the world will and it will add up the waste. The more waste going into landfills will mean there will be greater emissions than ever before. Since 2012 we have had insane amounts of trash around the world. The more emissions we have is the worse. So before you throw that wrapper out think about it.
6# The way methane is mostly created is by decomposing garbage in landfills. Methane is also 23 times more powerful then co2. So the biggest amount of waste in the world is garbage and the gas it emits is methane. So the more garbage will mean there is a lot of methane being released This takes away a lot of greenhouse gasses. So the less waste you have in landfills means less methane which produces a greenhouse gas/
Adding it up: Now what does this all mean. The most simple way I can put it is just do the thing you can do to help. If you see someone dropping a cigarette tell to stop and throw it out. If you see garbage on the ground just throw it out. Try not to pollute and be careful of where your putting things. We can help climate change by throwing waste out correctly putting cigarettes in the garbage and overall caring more about the things you use on a day to day basis.
Mr Robinson
Ask: When is started this project I thought to my self what questions could help me with this project. It hit me I need to find the biggest affectors of climate change in b.c. after I found that out I stated them into questions. It is quite easy to find things out when the question is clear. I also searched other questions in between to help me on the path. I feel like it is important to have little questions in between. Some examples are what is pollution, what is the difference between methane and co2, and what are the affects of littering.
#2 The digital tools that I used to find this information are creative commons youtube and my search engine safari. I used these tools in a variety of ways to find the answers that I was looking for. I also used these for back round information on the questions that I had.
#3. The process that I used to investigate the topic was searching each question one by one and not rushing. I made sure I knew the information about each question that I was searching up. With doing this I got the most amount of climate change info I needed.
#4. I verified my information by looking if there was any typos or anything seemed out of the ordinary. I found one site that looked good but when I looked further in a lot of the information turned out to be fake. So I think the most important thing in knowing if its fake or not is reading through and looking for anything that is out of the ordinary. So before you write things down look if its fake or not.
#5 The process of this challenge was really fun and I enjoyed learning about how to properly research things and how to know if it is fake or not and how to determine good information and bad information. One thing that I could have done better is to go a little deeper into some of the questions and look for more detail in it. Overall this was a fun project and I enjoyed it.
