Week 1 Blog Post

This week in Math class we learned about rational and irrational numbers in our workbook. Something I learned this week was when I looked at decimals I would get confused if they were rational or irrational. Decimals in rational numbers are repeating or terminating decimals. For example; 3.4 repeating is a rational number because it is repeating. An example of an irrational decimal is pie which is 3.1415…. This is an irrational number because it goes on forever and it is not repeating or terminating. Many of the Math concepts  we learned in class this week was review, therefore next week I will have more Math concepts that I will learn. I am thankful that I got to learn this concept because I can use this moving forward in Math class.

Spanish 10 Core Competency

For my Core Competency I decided to reflect on my creative thinking skills. I had to use this in both of our projects this year for Spanish 10. I had to use my creative thinking skills to think outside of the box and explain my learning in as many different ways as possible. For our second project we had to do it in partners. My partner and I both had to use our creative thinking skills when we were stuck and couldn’t find any information. We had to be patient and trust that we both did the best that we can do. I am proud of this Project because I don’t really think of my self as a creative person so when I saw I got a good mark it made me proud because all of my hard work throughout the week working on the project finally paid off.

Staying Safe at Work

3 things I will do to stay safe at work:

1. Before I start to work I need to understand the risks and the outcome for what is happening. I have to know what to do in a emergency. I have to know the hazards an be able to work slowly and carefully.

2. While I am working and start to feel tired or sore I have to take regular breaks to prevent myself form getting injured. This is a very important one because you need to be able to know when your tired and sore so you don’t overdue something and you could severally hurt yourself or someone else.

3. Another important thing to notice is to make sure your sober while your working. This may feel like an easy one but many people get life threatening injuries’ because they were intoxicated or not sober.

3 things I will do to keep others safe at work

1. While I am working if I see others without the proper safety equipment I will remind them to wear the correct safety equipment.

2. If you are working and you see someone who needs assistance you need to take over and talk about the concerns they had with the machine. If you don’t talk about the concerns then someone else comes to work at the same machine they wont know that its running properly.

3. If you are a Manager or a boss at your compony you need to make sure that there is as little stress as possible for the workers. This one is huge and very important to understand. Many Managers and bosses don’t ever think about the risk from putting too much on the workers.

The workplace accident that stuck with me the most was the girl who lost 3 fingers. I remember this sad story because it was the most interesting to me and it stuck with me the most because it could’ve been easily preventable. This story was very sad and frustrating for the girl because the way she lost them is something you don’t think about. She lost her 3 fingers by putting her fingers in where she was making the dough and and they got stuck and ripped them off. In the movie there was a lot of blood which I don’t like. When I was watching it, it made me sad because for the rest of her life she would only have 2 fingers on her right hand. She said that for as long as she could she tried to hide her hand because she didn’t want people to make fun of her. After doing this assignment and watching these sad stories it makes me think how careful I need to be when I am working. If I don’t feel good one day or if I am tired I need to take the day off because I need the best safety for my Co Workers and myself. I need to double check that what I am doing is right and don’t take any risks and ask questions if you need it.

Self-Reflection

Describe how the artifact you selected shows your strengths & growth in specific core competencies. The prompt questions on the left – or other self-assessment activities you may have done – may guide your reflection process.

I can explain my learning style as a listening style. I prefer to listen than to read or write. I am glad I know my learning style now so I can find an easier way to study. My learning style likes to hear things like in videos. For example, if I have a science test a good tool for me to use is Bill Nye the Science Guy. I understand videos and seeing things better then reading or writing things. Some of the ways I study are to make que cards or to watch a video. I feel like both are good tools to have and I recommend people to try it. I understand now that my top multiple intelligence is body movement. I was not surprised about this because I love to move around and get exercise. Sometimes it is hard for me to stay in one spot. When I do schoolwork sometimes, I like to get up after a while and move around.

I can identify and describe my own characteristics. My main characteristics are Active, supportive, energetic, helpful, and funny. These characteristics are important to me because it helps me meet new people and make new friends. All my friends have most of the traits. We are very similar and that is why were very close. Some of my weaknesses are I sometimes do not put enough effort in my work so this year I am trying to put as much work as I can.

Markus Goals

Personal Goal: My goal is to get 25 points in my hockey season this year This goal is important to me because I want to go somewhere in hockey after high school.

By the end of the Hockey season I want to have 25 points. I plan to work hard in all of my practices and games and practice at home too. I will go out of my way to work on stuff and lift weights at my house and if my friends ask me to hangout I will have to either shoot puck, stick handle or lift weights before is see them. I will ask my parents or coaches what I need to work on. If I do something wrong in practice or if I don’t get a drill I will ask my coach what I can do better.

Academic Goal: My goal is to get A and b on my report card this year. This goal is important to me because I care about my grades and if I don’t get good grades it could affect my future.

By the end of the school year I am hoping I will have only A and B on my report card. I plan to have a great work ethic and get all of my work in on time and its done to the best of my ability. I will make my school my number one priority and I can’t see friends or go to sports unless I get my work done. I will ask the teacher if I don’t get something and if she could help me out.
