‘House’ Short Story

1.  Harry’s opening line to Anna, “It’s a case of retarded development” sets up the initial conflict, but later becomes foreshadowing, how so?

This is an example of foreshadowing because later Harry becomes the one with retarded development, given to the fact that his family moves to the new house but then he regrets it and doesn’t like it anymore. Later he helped Anna destroying the wall, and he knew that he shouldn’t have tried to change his family, trying to fit in.

2.  Define ‘epiphany’

In literary terms, an epiphany is that moment in the story where a character achieves realization, awareness or a feeling of knowledge after which events are seen through the prism of this new light in the story.

3. At what point does Harry undergo an epiphany and what point is this in the plot development?

Harry undergoes an epiphany when he starts breaking down the wall with Anna, and he realizes that his family shouldn’t try to change to fit in, because they are different, and that’s what matters the most: to feel good and be yourself. So, in conclusion, don’t listen to the crowd, listen to your own voice.
