This week in math 10 we started the trigonometry unit. It is going well I understand how to do everything. One thing we learned is how to find the missing side of a right-angle triangle only knowing one other side and a reference angle. For example:
I this picture I show all the steps of finding X. First I label all of the sides on the triangle. The H = hypotenuse, O = opposite, A = adjacent. The only side I know the length of is: A = 19 units. I am trying to find X which is on the opposite side. I write Soh Cah Toa to find what I need to put into my calculator. Toa (Tangent) using the opposite and adjacent sides. So I must use tangent. I have all the information I need to start the equation. First I write Tan 35 = x/19. The goal is to get the x by its self on one side of the equation. I multiply 19 onto each side to get the x alone. After adding the x19 you get 19 x Tan 35 = x. You then have to put into your calculator 19 x 35 then press the tan button and press the equals button. The answer is 13.3 units.
This week of math 10 went well. After every lesson, I understood the material well. The most interesting thing we learned (to me) was the scientific notation. It is helpful to make a large number such as 45,300,000,000 into 4.53 x a much easier and understandable number.
In the top equation, I was trying to make the scientific notation of 5.3 x into the standard notation. I see the 5.3 so I know that they are the first 2 digits. tells me how many digits to put after the first number. For example, the 5 is followed by 7 digits. In the equation on the bottom, it is the opposite. I start with the standard notation of 870,000,000. The first number is 8 I have to find how many digits are after it. I counted 8 numbers after. I also have to put any number other than a 0. After the 8 is a 7 so I have to write it down as 8.7. with the extra digits, I have to write it as . In total the scientific notation is 8.7 x
The first week of math 10 went well. One thing I learned about was how to find the greatest common factor between two numbers. It is helpful to find the largest factor that divides into two numbers. In this equation, I was comparing 60 and 40. I wanted to see the largest common factor between the two. First I needed all the prime factors of the numbers. I did a factor tree below each number. For 60 I got 2 x 2 x 3 x 5. For 45 I got 3 x 3 x 5. I put the prime factors in a venn diagram and put the number they had in common in the center. In the case of 60 and 45, the only prime factor they had in common was 3. Because 3 was the only prime factor they had in common 3 is the GCF. In this equation, I was comparing 22 and 66. I was trying to find the largest common factor between the two. I did the same as the first equation and did the factor tree to find the prime factors. For 22 I got 2 x 11. For 66 I got 2 x 3 x 6 x 11. I also put the prime factors in a venn diagram. I put the common numbers in the center. The common numbers were 2 and 11. In this case, there were 2 common prime numbers. In order to find the great common factor, you have to multiply the numbers in the center circle. 2 x 11 = 22. The GCF is 22.
In this essay, I’m proud that I was able to finish and get a good mark even though I wasn’t there for the first few days. I am also proud I could use quotes to expand my thinking
In the future, I want to be able to use proper punctuation for all quotes. I also want to improve by being able to write more understandable sentences.
I am grateful for my siblings. They are all younger than me by at least 9 years. They’re all very little and happy. I’m grateful to have them because they always bring a smile to my face. In some places in the world, not all children get a good and healthy childhood. I’m glad all my siblings get a childhood. The oldest of my siblings is Mateo. He’s 6 years old and very sporty and crazy. Then there’s Isabella she’s 5 years old. She’s very shy and respectful. Also, there’s Natalia she’es 4 years old and very out-going. She’s a very cute little girl. My youngest sibling is Kailov he’s 2 years old. He is also outgoing and funny. I’m grateful for all my siblings I love them all very much.
This picture represents the rapid rise in population in Vancouver. Everyone is starting to live in close vicinity (apartments, townhouses, etc…). This could become a problem because we could start to run out of space. Housing is also a problem because of the high cost of living in Vancouver. Many people can’t afford to live here anymore. Especially if you are in college/university it’s getting harder and harder. If there are too many houses and not enough people living in them there is the possibility for housing prices to go down but as of right now the prices are at a high.
When it comes to visual literacy, I’ve learned how to take a picture apart and find a deeper meaning. Also, to look at the composition to find the message in the photo. Every photo has a meaning it is important to be able to find it. A good photographer can create a story in a photo that can leave you wondering what the meaning is.
In this community, I want to see lower prices in housing. This can’t be done easily or in a short period of time but, it is a concern for me when I am old enough to move out and struggle to afford a small house. I want the government to lover housing prices. Building more townhouses/apartments could lower housing prices. If there is less of a demand and more of supply the price will go down. But there are also negatives to this. If everyone has to cram into smaller housing spaces because it’s cheaper people won’t be as happy.
This is the employment opportunity. It is to be a cashier at Safeway. It could benefit my future by being able to talk to strangers better and to handle the pressure. The job requirements are basic math skills and the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment. I’m good with numbers so that could help me get the job. I’m also polite to everyone. To get this position I would go in for an interview at Safeway.
This is a volunteer opportunity. It is for a big brother mentor. It could benefit me in the future by helping me connect better with people. I’m passionate about getting in this field because I want to be able to connect with people easily.
