Collaboration Fluency
In science class, I was assigned a group project. And in this project, my group and I had to make a ruler standing on a glass bowl to move in a full 360 circle without touching it. The point of the project was to race to see which materials would make the ruler spin the fastest and which was more efficient. Mr. Horton my science teacher gave us all different kinds of materials and items to use to try to make the ruler spin.
Establish: Before doing anything, my group and I planned out what objects we were going to use first and how we were going to make the ruler spin. We all assigned ourselves jobs on how we were going to work on our project, the lists of jobs were being a racer in the class race, a timer to see who’s ruler spun the fastest, and a recorder to see how our group did in the race.
Envision: To be an effective group we all decided that we would share the workload on figuring out how we would make the ruler move, no ideas are bad ideas, and we would all give input on how we were going to finish our project. (Mainly communication was key in our group.)
Execute: As a group, we would create a project where our ruler would spin the fastest. To make the ruler move we tested rubbing a piece of fur onto a stick of lucite, and put the Lucite beside the ruler and moved it without touching it. Compared to everything else we tried out the Lucite stick moved the ruler the fastest, so that’s when we knew that we would use it in our race.
Examine: At the end of the race my group’s race time was 1:40, (not the fastest time in the class, but we tried our best). At the end of our collaboration, we were relieved that we had finally finished our project and that we succeeded our goal.

Solution Fluency
In Science class, we had our first lab. My classmates and I had to discover which out of the four detergents worked the best on removing stains. The 4 detergents we used were Ultra, Woolite, Sunlight, and Tide. Then we ripped up an old towel rag and made a stain on 5 shreds of rags.
DEFINE: The challenge in my lab was figuring out different ways by proving which detergent would work the best since I didn’t have any access to a washing machine. I was in a group with 2 of my friends and we figured out a solution. We poured the detergents in 5 different beakers filled with an equal amount of water, and then dipped the towel rags into the detergent water. We stirred the rags in our detergent and soap solution as if it was in a washing machine or 15 minutes.
DISCOVER: The questions that my group and I needed to ask was how to get the stains out the rags. We all pitched in ideas and then my friend Rachel suggested that we should mix the detergents with water and mix it around in a beaker, as if it was a washing machine.
DELIVER: In the picture above those were the towel rag outcomes from each detergent. The first rag was the Ultra detergent. The second was the Woolite (which did the best). The third was the Tide. The fourth was the Sunlight. Â And the 5th was the control group which was used as the experimental rag, we just used plain water, in attempt to get the stain out.
Since my group and I chose the hardest stain to get out (paint), it was hard to try to remove the stains efficiently without using a washing machine.
DEBRIEF: I knew before doing this project that the outcome wouldn’t be efficient. And I expected for the most expensive detergent to work the best, which was the Woolite (and my hypothesis was correct!). The process of the experiment was tiring, especially stirring a rag in a beaker for 15 minutes, but the lab was really fun.
Library Activity Day 2017
Station 7 Paragraph:
Things that i’ve learned about Riversides reasources is that they influence students to go use the library and read because even though not many people care for reading, it’s still important.
The one thing that I learned about Terry Fox library is that they lend out ukeleles which I thought was very interesting. For the ukeleles the librarians hold videos at the library that you can borrow so you can learn how to use them.
The one thing that stood out in the Terry Fox library presentation was the little library station where we got to pick out some books for free and get a library card which I thought was really nice!
