The Sounds of Screen – The Veldt

Ray Bradbury’s short story The Veldt is about the Hadley family and how they live in a house is completely run by machinery. Bradbury illustrates the way how the majority of humanity is headed if we continue down this path when using technology. My poem was heavily inspired of the Veldt and how technology can change the dynamics between families and friends.

The Sounds of Screen

Tap, tap, tap

What is this, a new app?

Replacing, taking our time that we state is so precious

We are reckless

Kids are being disconnected from friends and parents

And having them be exchanged with technology parrots

Sure parrots are great they say

But when you reach the point in time where everything is grey

The guidance of a real and I mean real person is the doorway

Likes and comments might fill you with false happiness

However, with one dislike or mean statement

Bam!

Be carful the internet can be quite ravenous

We treat this tool as child’s play

Yet it is almost at our doomsday.

But, I mean what do we even think?

The next generation can deal with the problem of our tech, right?

No, let us take flight towards the daylight

We have the power to rewrite

It is important that we ignore the wants of our overconsumption

Time to stop making assumptions

  1. Thank you for posting your poetry project based on the short story “The Veldt,” a project for both English 9 and COL (ADL10). I have some observations regarding this piece on a technological perspective.

    – Editing and overall presentation looks good
    – Creative layout of information in an aesthetically pleasing manner
    – Somewhat professional in format (replicates a professional looking film)
    – Presentation images, text and audio, straightforward and provides added value
    – Multiple categories highlight the importance of the short story in a different form of media, your poem
    – Properly posted on your edublog!

I hope that you enjoyed doing this project and learnt not only about poetry, but also how to use a new technological tool!
    Thank you,
