In your opinion, based on the theme of this story, how has Canadian history and attitudes shaped the First People of Canada’s identity?
I feel like there are certain people who do not agree with First Nations and who aren’t polite to them which is wrong and I think people should be kind to whomever. The reality is that most people don’t think of you as First Nations or the color of your skin or your ethnic origin, they just think of them as a person or more preferably a Human Being. I don’t think it has shaped the identity of the first nation as much as people think it has. Canadians pay reparations towards the First Nations which isn’t a bad thing. I think people are clinging heavily onto the past and we should leave the past alone and start a new. This is my opinion.
My fear is the fear of being in deep waters. I always think that something is going to swim past my feet or grab me and pull me down to the bottom of the ocean. I don’t even like swimming in oceans or lakes. I am comfortable in swimming in swimming pools because I know what’s under the water which is pure concrete and nothing is swimming below my feet beside humans.
If I am out with my family swimming in the ocean or lake or sea and they are out in the deep water it scares me because I think something will pull them under or they will drown so I don’t like my family swimming in deep waters.
It can be used against me with a dare. If I and some friends are playing truth or dare and they tell me I have to go into the deep water and swim I will not do that no matter what.
I honestly do not know how to minimize this power that’s making me scared of deep water.
