week 7 precalculus 11

Quadratic formula:x=-b+-√b²-4ac/2a

example: x²-6x+3

x=6+-√36-12/2

x=6+-2√6 /2

x=3+-√6

Interpreting the Discriminant:

when the b² -4ac>0, have two roots,

when the b²-4ac=0, have one roots,

when the b²-4ac <0, no real roots.

such as :  x²-2x-3

b²-4ac

=4-4x1x(-3)

=16

16>0, so have two roots
