Rube Goldberg Project: Ring – a – Ding – a – Dong !

Ring – a – Ding – a – Dong!

Steps:

A) Call the phone as it will start to vibrate and push the Jenga pieces.

B) As the Jenga pieces are pushed they will push the big mable off of the edge.

C) The marble hits the top cardboard which lets the golf ball below free as the bottom cardboard flies up.

D) The golf ball rolls into the first cup.

E) The second cup that is connected to the first cup flies up to the top and hits a cardboard piece with a marble on it.

F) The marble launches down and into the tube.

G) This marble continues through the cardboard and the maze and then falls onto a straight cardboard piece.

H) The marble then hits the cup and the cup is set free to fly up since the other cup weighs a lot more.

I) The cup that flew up hits a cardboard piece with another marble on it and this marble continues to roll down the remainder.

J) The marble finally hits a bell and it rings finishing the task at hand.

Energy Transfers:

1. Chemical Energy –> Light Energy/Sound Energy (Charging the battery of the phone creates chemical energy which then creates sound and light energy when someone calls it.)

2. Gravitational Potential Energy –> Kinetic Energy/Heat Energy (The marble has mass and height meaning when it is knocked down this converts to kinetic energy meaning motion since it is rolling down. Heat energy is also created because it is going down a surface with friction)

3. Gravitational Potential Energy –> Kinetic Energy –> Mechanical Energy –>Heat Energy (When the marble is let lose from the cardboard piece it has gravitational potential energy, then as it rolls it transfers to kinetic energy, and when it falls into the cup it transfers to mechanical energy since it is still moving and has height, and finally heat energy is created the whole time due to friction of the cardboard and string.)

4. Elastic Energy –> Kinetic Energy –>Heat Energy (As there is tension in the string since weight is weighing it down, when the golf ball falls into the cup then the cup starts to fly up creating kinetic energy (motion) and with the speed of the string moving it then creates heat energy because of the friction.)
