I wrote the following poem based on my understanding of the journal entry, according to the experience of holocaust “Displaced Person’s Account” written by Charles V. Ferree, who had been to Nazis camps. I extracted nouns, verbs and adjectives, in order to find the tone of the poem. I wrote the poem to tribute to all men and women who fought in the Word War II so that I live in a freedom country.

Poem
A temporary command from Eisenhower,
Flying officers from Eisenhower’s headquarters,
Into the Nazi camps.
We landed our makeshift airstrip,
War still going on.
I heard rifles shoot,
I saw dead bodies around everywhere,
Former prisoners were running around.
The prisoners starved, froze, perished,
Dead or dying prisoners were piled in heaps.
I could not imagine how cruel the Nazis were!
After Dachau,
I burned my uniform that tried to forget the death smell,
However, it’s still with me.
I have returned to Europe and revisited Nazi camps several times,
It’s an emotional experience for me.
I will not forget the tragic holocaust.
