Conjunctions are words that connect clauses. The most common types of conjunctions are coordinating conjunctions, and subordinating conjunctions. You can remember all the coordinating conjunction by remembering the antonym FANBOYS. FANBOYS stands for:

For

And

Nor

But

Or

Yet

So

Some examples of FANBOYS are:

Kourosh doesn’t have a job, for he is broke.

Rich knows how to read, and write.

Zayd doesn’t like reading, nor does he like writing.

Nathan has homework, but he doesn’t want to do it.

Alex can go get icecream, or he can get pizza

Projects can be very exciting, yet usually they are complete garbage.

I’m going to Mexico, so I won’t be at school.

These words are the ones connecting two main clauses together. There are also subordinating conjunctions. An acronym for those is AAAWWUBBIS. It stands for:

After

Although

As

While

When

Until

Before

Because

If

Since

Some examples of AAAWWUBBIS are:

After I finish high school, I will forget everything I ever learnt.

Although I hate school, I still show up.

As I walked through the park, I saw a dog.

When I watched a movie, I got jump scared.

Until you start dying, your grandma wont stop feeding you.

Before we get homework, it must be explained to us.

Because school is boring, I don’t want to do my work.

If your broke like kourosh, you won’t be able to buy things.

These words can be at the beginning of a sentence, or they can be in the middle of one.
