Digital Footprint

1.How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

i) An example would be the higher chances of having a positive digital footprint the higher chance in the future to get into a university you want or hoping you’ll be accepted too. Let’s just say you want to go to a good university you have a high/average grade to get into one. The university that you are applying too will look for your school profile where all your grades are in. The awards you have been rewarded can be posted online about you which will increase your chances of getting the job. How positive your digital footprint is will also be looked for but if they search you up on the internet and sees all the things you’ve posted online where your vaping, drinking, posting negative posts about other people it’ll reduce the chances of getting into the university you want.

ii) Another example would be it’ll give you a higher chance of getting into a job and a better position that you want if you have a positive digital footprint. When you’re applying for a job, you have all the skills that they are looking for and the intelligence, you have a high chance of getting the job. But to make sure your not some criminal/ done illegal stuff or someone who has a negative digital footprint they usually look you up online and find information about you. Sometimes it’ll show your social media accounts and what you post and say on the internet or some other information that you had no idea that it was even on the internet. Lets just say you did a project/work that you posted online and you’re aware of that, the company/ job you are applying too can see how much skill you have and potential you have in doing this type of job so having a positive digital footprint might get you the job.

2. Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

i) When posting something on your blog or online you shouldn’t post anything personal about your life or your friends to keep you safe and your friends. Like where your location is and what you are doing because people you don’t know that they can track you and your friends down.

ii) Think before you post. When posting anything online you should always ask yourself if this is appropriate or safe to post or if your parents approve of you posting it since alot of people can see it and you don’t know who or what they can do to that picture.

iii) Be considerate of what you comment online. If you think your going to comment something negative at someones post and delete after, anyone can screen shot the post that you posted online and it can be saved in the internet or people who you don’t know can save it.

3. What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

I learned that you should be mindful of what you say and post online because it’s really important that you keep a positive digital footprint . Only post the necessary things that’ll help you in the future like your work and your hobbies/skills that you have in life. If you want to post something personal about your life make sure it’s the people you know and trust. Building a postive footprint in life will also be looked for when you are finding a job or a university. The things you post online can always be leaked since its easy to screenshot or screen record any negative coments or post. Someone will either have it on there phone or send it to everyone you know. Everyones digital footprint is either a positive or a negative digital footprint. You’re the only one that can be responsible to know what you post online and to maintain your digital footprint to be positive.
