Community Connection

For my Community Connection project I chose to interview Tatiana, her instagram is striletskaya_dress. Tatiana is a fashion designer she sells her collections using Instagram to attract more customers mainly directed to women. Fashion designers are responsible for designing and making clothing, footwear, and/or accessories, sketches designs and  patterns and analysing trends in fabrics, colours and shapes. A role that each designer have is keeping up to date with trends in the industry to stay ahead of competitors, constantly having visual work and ideas for new collection of clothes to sell best quality products for customers.

I’ve been really into fashion, I could spend the entire day at the mall without getting bored of looking for outfits, pairing outfits together but sewing and designing clothes is more on the harder and professional side which I’m really interested in learning to do since I’ve searched up and looked at many designs other fashion designers have made and its really beautiful, unique and very creative. I was scrolling through instagram to see the different designs other fashion designers have made that’s how I found Tatiana’s instagram striletskaya_dress her feed is aesthetically and visually apealling it really caught my eye with the beautiful colors (neutral and vibrant colours), lets not forget the beautiful dresses shown on her instagram. Fashion designers hold a very special place in the world, their talent and imagination play a huge role in what people wear whether its traditional clothing, cultural, expensive designer clothes or just simple everyday clothing.  Different unique clothings help us find what we are comfortable wearing out without feeling less confident. Fashion designer like Tatiana are very determined people when she sets her mind on something like being a fashion designer, thats what she will do, she dedicated her days and nights on her job someone like her really inspires me, she’s dedicated, hard working and she enjoys her job. She was very kind to respond to my dm which I appreciate very much she didn’t hesitate to help me out she let me interview her even if she’s a busy person and she knew her english wasn’t as great but she still answered the questions.

Why are you passionate about your job?

After finishing school,I had two roads psychology and politology because I was interested in history (including history of fashion) and consumption philosophy.I understand these professions were not relevant, so I decided to improve myself in my hobby it was sewing in that time. I started it when I was a child, I inherited this talent from grandma and father So I entered Design Institute and studied there for six months after that I realized that they taught us painting and in 5 years I will be able to paint clothes but not to make it. So I came back home and went on working in this sphere on my own because from the school at that time I had already had some customers among them there were my friends and school teachers.

What obstacle have you faced to get you where you are today?

In that time I did not have any competitors it was very good for me because people only started to understand the real meaning designer dress. My customers didn’t want to get mass market dress, they wanted something special.Only onstage I faced was lack start up capital ,but I earned in while working.

What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?

First of all a person interested in fashion has to choose a target audience.Nowadays it is much more easy because there are such social networks as Instagram and Facebook, and talented young people can present their ideas for big amount of customers.

Would you be open to further contact from Riverside students and if so, how can someone contact you?

Yes,I am completely open and other students can contact me with via Instagram striletskaya_dress.

What would you recomend for highschool students to do in order to get to where you are now?

To begin with in order to become successful you have to show total dedication and passion to your profession. The second thing that should be mentioned is hard work and attention to the details. When I only stared to work I dedicated all my days and nights to this job because it’s extremely important and people knew it was something I wanted to do.

Who was your role model and how did they influence you?

As far as I studied my own I read a big amount of books about great fashion designers who have inspired me like Coco Chanel ,Valentino Garavan and Cristobal Balensiaga. I studied about their life and their way up to the top.

This interview made me think of the choices of careers I can do when I’m older, which one of them could be a fashion designer I know it would be a long complicated process since I need to take certain classes for fashion designing for a year or more to be the best that I can be in order to be a succesful designer. I have to pay attention to details, be determined, dedicated,  and also be a hard worker. Another thing I learned is when designing any kind of clothing you can put any design, material, shape and colours you desire, it really needs to have different types of clothing that every women would love to wear and be more confident and beautiful when wearing it since a lot of women have different taste in fashion. If really want to do something even if it’s difficult I have to be driven and when people drag me down or I make a mistake I could always try again prove them wrong and get back up because alot of things in life are not meant to be easy, you have to work for it. Fashion has been something that really interest me for very long time so talking to someone like Tatiana who has an experience on creating/designing clothes is very helpful since I can connect with someone who has the same passion as me and show me the way on how to be a successful designer one day If thats what I choose to do in the future.

Acceleration StopMotion Video

In this project we had to create our own stopmotion video based on the book that each group were reading for a few weeks during class. For our stopmotion Video my group and I read Acceleration We had a few days to create a stopmotion video using lego which was very complicated since we had to move the lego people/pieces every single time so that it would move without any hands showing, it took awhile to do everything but we were able to do it. I used an app named Filmaker Pro which helped me edit the video. We used another persons youtube channel (Keifer) instead of one of us in our group uploading it onto our youtube channel because we didn’t want to upload it onto any of our youtube channel. For the project I helped with the vision board, dowloaded/filmed on the stop motion and Filmaker Pro app on my phone and edited the video.

I also found out more of what kind of job my mom has and does. It’s not an official plan for my future because I can change it, after high school I was thinking I’m probably going to have a part time job (I don’t kow what job yet). I won’t take a gap year because I know that if I do I will become lazy to go back to school and will probably just stick with job thats not as a good paying job like a nurse or doctor. During Breaks or school I will go training for being a registered nurse and observe facilities, hospital etc. with specific jobs people have like how I observed my moms job for take your kid to work day.

Victorian Era vs. Today

Writing prompt #1: Very materialistic and spent money on clothes, accessories, fine furnishings

My group and I categorized it under continuity because it hasn’t changed at all, it’s still the same as today, we still use money to spend on clothes and accessories and also furnish homes to improve our quality of life. It’s the same as Victorian Era as well. For clothes Majority of people care about materialistics like nice and expensive things so that they can show off how rich or how much nice things they have or just to make them feel better about themselves and rich, people did that back then and still do to this day. For people back then in the Victorian Era they spent money on materialistics to show what kind of social staus and life style they have and people do it on this current day. In conclusion we can see that spending money on materialistic, clothes, accessories and fine furnish has continued and it’s very reasonable that it’s put in the continuity column.

Writing prompt #2: clothing was very formal: women wore long dresses and aprons; men wore hats suits, ties

For change I decided to choose clothing. The slip of paper said that in the Victorian Era clothing was very formal and women wore long dresses while men wore hats, suits, and ties. Most people now wear formal clothing depending on the occasion, event, or job they have but at school or at home, people wear more informal/casual clothing. We can immediatly say clothing style/trend has changed a lot comparing back then to now.  Popular clothing for both men and women include things like jeans, leggings, t-shirts, jackets, sweaters, hoodies etc. Specifically for women, some dresses and skirts are worn but are alot shorter and less informal compared to the Victorian Era. For men, some suits and ties are worn but not everyday only if needed. Dressier/formal outfits would be dependent on the what event, occasion or work you have, but usually not everyone wears formal clothing everyday on a normal day basis.
