In the movie The Pursuit of Happyness by Gabriele Muccino, Christopher Gardner invents a machine called a “bone density scanner”. He puts extreme amounts of money and effort into making and selling this product, but unfortunately it doesn’t work out the way he had imagined. Just making enough to make ends meet, his life starts to spiral out of control. He loses his apartment, can’t pay his parking tickets; therefore, he has to take the bus and his wife leaves him. In efforts to get his life back together, Chris switches careers and becomes a stockbroker. He is taking a leap of faith; in order to get a paid position he must outwork the competition during a six month period of training. Since the day his wife left, Chris has been working non-stop to provide the best life he can for his young son. Humans have the ability to take a chance on success to provide for the life of a child. This movie shows that even when you are going through dark times, and it may feel like you hit rock bottom, taking a chance on something new and realizing what is most important could turn everything around.
