The Message

The minute my friend and I climbed out of the car, we started sweating. We’re at Venice Beach in Los Angles. I look around; the water is a vibrant sparkling blue. There’s a light, soft, humid breeze coming from my right making my hair a giant, curly, puffy mess. It was mid-afternoon, when the sun is at its strongest. We began to walk in the busy board walk of Venice beach. To my left there’s a street basketball game going with a giant crowd of people watching. As we keep walking down the lively and bustling boardwalk, I see all these different vendors. There are clothing shops, medical shops, skate shops, beach shops and so much more. I stop at a one vendor stand who’s selling these exquisite skateboards that he’d hand painted himself. My friend and I begin to talk with the kind vendor and he make us laugh. As We continue walking further down the road, I think to myself, California is beautiful. There’re so many different cultures and people. Just on this beach there is so much happening. Basketball games, skate board competitions, artists painting, people singing, street shows and so much more. We stop by this small, cute, blue house. It had little stairs leading up to the glass doors. I thought it was a cute spot to take a picture. As we were taking pictures we noticed a street show happening just a few meters away. We walk over and join the crowd surrounding the performers.  There are 4 men playing music and dancing. While they were dancing they would make jokes and make everyone would laugh. The longer it went on the more people came to watch. I was loving it! They were nearing the end of their show when one of the 4 performers hops on his partners shoulders and says with a loud and strong voice “Alright, now, we have a special message for the kids. Why? Because the kids are the future and as we’re the adults we must learn to lead by an example. Now listen up kids, if you want your mother, your father, your teachers to be proud of you, don’t do drugs. Don’t do alcohol. Why? Because it’s not good for your body. And remember people, we are all a part of the human race, so we must learn to live together and be more civilized. And that’s what goes for that message y’all.” As he jumps off quickly from his partners head to continue with the show, I think about what he had said. He was right. Children and teens are the future and that all of us must learn to be better than our past generations, so we can have a better world. We can’t change the past, but we can improve the future so why should teens damage their bodies with drugs, damage their minds and their future potential? This stays a thought in the back of my mind as the performance goes on. They pull out 8 ½ people (½ because they brought out a little kid.) and the man who had given the message arranges them in a line and gets them to bend over. He then clears a long pathway up the road. He’s about to jump over all these people. He goes to the beginning of the path and gets ready to run.  The whole crowd watching begins to clap with enthusiasm, cheering him on. He then runs. He runs and flips over all the people and lands. As he lands though his foot slips and he roll over on the ground then gets up. Everyone is cheering, shocked he managed to do it. A few seconds later my friend’s phone rings and it’s our moms asking where we went because we took way longer than we said we would. As we hurried back to our agreed meeting spot with our parents my friend and I talk about the show. How it was entertaining yet also gave off a wonderful message.
