  • work on – study SD vocab for Monday’s quiz: same format as the last quiz with FEC: spell the words; write two sentences using the words in a contextually correct way that reveals your understanding of the word

  • Make sure you have posted your work to the blog with the correct TAG!!!
  • homework check and discussion of the first two questions from The Sea Devil – while the discussion is going on, take notes in the Review Chart
    • work on Vocab for The Sea Devil; question #3 – plot terms is due for tomorrow
  • Grammar Package #2 – first three pages (1, 2, and 4) are due tomorrow – Wednesday, February 26
  • spelling quiz for The Sea Devil is on Thursday, February 27

Agenda:

  • finish the last two pages of the Grammar Package on Parts of Speech – homework check
  • In groups of two or three, complete the following, but make sure you have your own notes:
    • Review the good theme statements from our discussion of FEC:
      a) Social change can happen with the small actions of dedicated individuals. OR
      b) A movement seldom happens overnight. For the most part, a change in attitude is brought about by small actions.
    • Examine Gandalf’s quote. How does Gandalf’s quote relate to FEC and what Miss Ralston did? Brainstorm.
    • What is meant by small acts of kindness that are courageous in their own way? Brainstorm some concrete examples from everyday life.
    • Who has been at the forefront of positive change in our society (school, community, world) but is an ordinary person? (not a celebrity etc.) Brainstorm.

  • Review the theme statements; with a partner, go over them and determine which ones work best according to the rules; which ones do you think capture the big idea of FEC? This is due today in class for review. Document is in the SS Eng 9 tab
