Pre-Calc 11 Top 5 for 2017

Class Attendance
• Try to show up to every class because everyday theres different information and missing just one class will make you behind. You will never catch up if you miss a week. Theres way too much information that I couldn’t even get and I showed up every single day.
Homework
• Do the practice assignments for each unit even if its not due. They will help you understand the topics because the units relate to another. Not doing them will result in not knowing any units and will cause you to fall behind.
Test Correction
• Although the unit is complete and the test is done, its useful to do corrections. Theres a final exam at the end of which is composed of all of the units. Knowing what you got wrong for future reference is useful. Compare with your peers since they did the same test and ask questions if necessary.
Math Friend
• Sit beside someone you know so you don’t hate math as much. Math will become much enjoyable with a friend. If you don’t know anybody, sit beside a classmate and do some math together. Its better to struggle together than struggle by yourself
Questions

  • While going through the units, if you dont know something always ask the teacher. The odds are that other people dont know  something either and its better for the class to learn. You do not want to go into other chapters not knowing the basics first.

Reducing Rational Expressions

We must always reduce rational expressions when we can to make the expression simple. In order to do this we must find the excluded values for X.  The restrictions on the variables is when the value makes the denominator zero. Then we should see if we are able to factor the numerator and the demoniator. Next, cancel any factors that are possible. Finally simplify the expression. Keep in mind that factors are constants/variables that are mulitplied or divided together.  Terms on the other hand, are constants/variables that are added or subtracted.

When to use What Trig

The Primary Trig Ratios should be the very first concept everyone should see if they could use to solve on a triangle.  SOH CAH TOA ratios only works to solve the missing values for a right triangle. The primary trig ratio works for the picture below because it is a right triangle and theres an angle and a side we could use to solve the triangle.

Sine Law can be used if the triangle is not a right triangle and there are two sides with the corresponding angle.  The sine law works for triangles that can be labeled like the picture below.  The sine law can be used with any triangle if given the right sides and angles.

The cosine law should be used when sine law and the primary trig ratios do not work. The cosine would only be used if theres an angle and there are two other angles that do not correspond with the sides. Cosine works with the diagram below because the opposite side of the angle is unknown.

If all of the methods can be used in a situation I would choose the Primary Trig Ratios because i believe it is the fastest and easiest method. I have been using the primary trig ratios since grade 10 so it would make sense to keep using it.

In grade 10, I only knew about the primary trig ratios. The method limits my abilities to solve all triangles because it only works on right triangles.  Now I know multiple ways to solve a triangle.  I did not realize how indept trigonometry can go into. I can also predict if the ratios would be positive or negative using the Cast Rule.

“Hey Mama” lyrics

KANYE WEST LYRICS
Play “Hey Mama”
“Hey Mama”

[Chorus]
(Hey Mama), I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I’m so proud of you
Let me tell you what I’m about to do, (Hey Mama)
I know I act a fool but, I promise you I’m goin back to school
I appreciate what you allowed for me
I just want you to be proud of me (Hey Mama)

[Verse 1]
I wanna tell the whole world about a friend of mine
This little light of mine and I’m finna let it shine
I’m finna take yall back to them better times
I’m finna talk about my mama if yall don’t mind
I was three years old, when you and I moved to the Chi
Late December, harsh winter gave me a cold
You fixed me up something that was good for my soul
Famous homemade chicken soup, can I have another bowl?
You work late nights just to keep on the lights
Mommy got me training wheels so I could keep on my bike
And you would give anything in this world
Michael Jackson leather and a glove, but didn’t give me a curl
And you never put no man over me
And I love you for that mommy cant you see?
Seven years old, caught you with tears in your eyes
Cuz a  cheatin, telling you lies, then I started to cry
As we knelt on the kitchen floor
I said mommy Imma love you till you don’t hurt no more
And when I’m older, you aint gotta work no more
And Imma get you that mansion that we couldn’t afford
See you’re, unbreakable, unmistakable
Highly capable, lady that’s makin loot
A livin legend too, just look at what heaven do
Send us an angel, and I thank you (Hey Mama)

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
Forrest Gump mama said, life is like a box of chocolates
My mama told me go to school, get your doctorate
Somethin to fall back on, you could profit with
But still supported me when I did the opposite
Now I feel like it’s things I gotta get
Things I gotta do, just to prove to you
You was getting through, can the choir please
Give me a verse of “You, Are So Beautiful To Me”
Can’t you see, you’re like a book of poetry
Maya Angelou, Nicky Giovanni, turn one page and there’s my mommy
Come on mommy just dance wit me, let the whole world see your dancing feet
Now when I say Hey, yall say Mama, now everybody answer me (Hey Mama)

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
I guess it also depends tho, if my ends low
Second they get up you gon get that Benzo
Tint the windows, ride around the city and let ya friends know (Hey Mama)

[Verse 3]
Tell your job you gotta fake em out
Since you brought me in this world, let me take you out
To a restaurant, upper echelon
Imma get you a jag, whatever else you want
Just tell me what kind of S-Type Donda West like?
Tell me the perfect color so I make it just right
It don’t gotta be Mother’s Day, or your birthday
For me to just call and say (Hey Mama)

Experience Greek for Under $20

Experience Greek for Under $20

Review by: Kevin Choi

Dinakis Mediterraneoan Grill is a restaurant that brings that taste of Greek right into Port Coquitlam. Dinakis has plenty of parking space for customers to enjoy. I have never truly loved Greek food until I tried Dinakis. The atmosphere and the delicious food alone makes me want to come back to Dinakis. As I enter, I am greeted by friendly waiters that find a clean marble table for my family. The comfortable chairs added with the soothing orange walls makes me feel at home. The place is brightly lit with subtle lights. The paintings on the walls go along great with the colors of the walls. Dinaki’s is usually packed with a lot of people; however, the servers try to help as much as possible despite the busyness of the restaurant. An unappealing part of the location is that there are train’s that go by behind the restaurant. The train blows its loud whistle one in a while which ruins the mood. Once in a while, the train carts make contact with each other and create an exploding sound. However, the food makes up for the annoying sounds. The menu has a vast selection of different Greek and Mediterranean food although they are best known for their expertise in Greek food. A mixture of different food scents develops an irresistible smell. The food can be classified as expensive o-2although, there is enough food for two people to eat with one meal. Their signature dish, the souvlaki’s are my absolute favorite. There are 4 types of souvlaki’s for example, beef, lamb, chicken and prawn souvlakis. A souvlaki includes a classic Greek salad, two fire-grilled meat skewers of my choice, potato’s with rice, plain pita bread, and two zesty sauces. The Greek salad comes with freshly picked cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, with a shredded creamy feta cheese. The salad compliments the skewers and without each other, the experience would be totally different. I enjoy changing up the type of skewer every time I eat at Dinakis. The meats are tender and full of flavors, it is truly cooked to perfection. Cooking with lamb is known to be difficult to get right. Over cooking the lamb will result in the meat being rubbery and smelly, however, that was not the case at Dinakis. In the rice and potatoes, I could taste the herbs and citrusy lemons which added a nice kick it needed. Finally, a single plain piece of pita bread comes alongside the two dips. I have yet to realize what either of these dips are for. My friend ino-1formed me that one is for the salad and the other is for the bread, however, I use it for every part of the meal. The dips are practically universal, I can dip bread or meat in the sauces and they would still taste like heaven. One of the souvlakis is able to fill two people since the food provided is plentiful. Dinakis has been voted 2015’s favorite restaurant in the Tri-City News and without a doubt, the restaurant brings in a lot of hungry customers. Dinakis Mediterranean Grill has reasonably priced food that is delicious and also filling, anyone who wants Greek food should definitely give Dinakis a try.

Marshmallow and Spaghetti Tower

image

In this activity our group had to create a standing structure with spaghetti, strings and tape. We were allowed to cut the strings and tape in order to support the building. The main goal was to reach the highest with the marshmallow on the tip of the structure. We were to not cut the marshmallow in any shape or form. The main aspect of physics in this activity is gravity, balance and weight shift.  We couldnt just tape up all the spaghetti in a long line and lift it up. The marshmallow would need support in order to maintain at the tip without losing its balance. We tried an unorthodox approach at building this structure, a triangular base was used for the foundation. We taped a tiki shaped structure to the base to gain elevation. We followed this similar structure to create supports for the structure. This activity reminded me off the Eiffle tower because it is supported the same way as some of the supports on the legs, resembling a crisscross pattern. I think that balancing weight on the structures were the hardest because we were not sure which part of tower needed more support. If we had more time, we would have been able to create a well balanced structure that could hold up a marshmallow.
