lit circle individual project

this is my electronic representation on my news article written from the story “The absolutely true diary of a part time Indian”. I had written the article based on the main character “Junior”, and his best friend “Rowdy”. the article talks about their friendship and the time their friendship was put to the test by a bold decision made by junior.

Information Fluency

three strategies to find out if a website is real or fake it two check its backroad information, make sure the info on the website is correct. Secondly take a further look into the website, if links take you to pages that don’t work the website is probably fake. third of all do some research on the information provided to see if it is real.

after going to the riverside home page click the library tab, then press “click here” then chose Ebsco and finally click publications. The publication that I have chosen is: http://web.b.ebscohost.com/ehost/command/detail?sid=659e9da9-7a86-4120-b86c-668654faac64%40sessionmgr103&vid=4&hid=125&bdata=JnNpdGU9ZWhvc3QtbGl2ZQ%3d%3d#jid=68B&db=aph

one thing I learned today was how to use the library websites and how to hook up my laptop to the television located in the library.

poem analysis

we both really enjoyed this poem and found it very entertaining.

In the third stanza it says “Nor is 5; there one today” which makes me think that this event had happened in the past and that the house remains alone and empty to our current day. I think this poem is about a lonely house that remains on a hill, forgotten and deserted. A house that could have once been a home.

The author is the one who is speaking in the poem and possibly one of his past homes. The author is speaking to the readers to inform them about the lonely sunken and forgotten house. The setting is the house on top of the hill.

In this poem there are 6 stanzas containing 3 verses in each except the last one containing 4 verses. The poem is closed and contains lots of repetition in each stanza and at certain times has an ABA rhyme scheme.

there was lots of tone and attitude throughout the poem “the house on the hill”. bleak and shrill, sunken, ruin and decay were some descriptive words the author used to make us experience and feel as if we were looking at the house on the hill. throughout the poem the tone is gloomy and depressing. I think that the meaning of the poem and words is to have respect for things even If they are broken or scary looking because they have a back story. the poem makes readers a little frightened and spooked about the house on the hill.

Bleak: Denotation is of an area of land. Connotation, lacking vegetation and exposed to the elements.
Shrill: Denotation is of a value of sound. Connotation, high-pitched and piercing.

This poem is serious, sad and deep. The poem doesn’t really change throughout the poem, the poem sounds deep and serious the whole time.

we liked the overall assignment and found that it helped our understanding in poetry.

Song analysis for English

this is my analysis of the song I chose…

One of my favourite songs is Golden by Ruth B, she is a very inspiring singer and lives in Canada. I feel like this song is affectionate and empowering. she used many essential words that showed meaning and expression, for example, Bold, Bronze, Twisted and Silver. These words described the song and were more noticeable and apparent to me, they showed feeling and emphasized to the song. the song is very glum throughout the beginning explaining about her experiences with bullying but later the tone drastically changes to joyful and explains how she overcame bullying. Throughout the stanza there are sixty-nine stanzas. I feel like she is trying to help by telling us not to give up on yourself and just that everybody makes mistakes sometime but just brush them off and keep going. during this song I noticed that there was also two times I had seen alliteration, for example when she had sung “burn burn burn” and “golden golden gold” these both have the first letter repeated throughout three times and there for it is alliteration. During a verse she sang “I was coal my friend now I’m gold” this simile was comparing gold to coal which are both completely different objects, even though they are both minerals the song is comparing two unlike things. The song was very joyous and happy, she had been bullied but never gave up and became a strong, loving and passionate person. the singer is trying to tell us that you can be successful if you try and if people ever say you’re not good enough, don’t listen to them. the song is written from love, strength and maybe past experiences. I think she had mainly written the poem for her fans and to give others confidence. I hadn’t noticed to much rhyme in the poem but including the whole verse and chorus the pattern was: A, B, B, C, E, B, B, C.

Golden
Ruth B
The fire used to burn, all the words used to hurt
But you’re not like us, you are different
I couldn’t see that that was a compliment
‘Cause the last thing I want now is to be you
And the flames don’t feel as hot as they use to
Burn, burn, burn
They used to yell
You thought I was coal
My friend, I’m gold
Can’t you tell?
Burn, burn, burn
They used to yell
You thought I was coal
My friend, I’m gold
Can’t you tell?
‘Cause I’m not weak, I’m not broken I am bold
And the fire you put me through turned me into gold
I’m not done, I’m no loser
Watch me take on my bright future
Tonight I’m no bronze I’m no silver
You’ll be thinking, damn I knew her
But you didn’t
Don’t get it twisted
Out of the ashes you buried me in
I, I am golden
I, I am golden
You tried so hard to break me down
Like a fire-breathing dragon, but I guess I took your crown
You pushed for me to change for you
But I’m so glad that I stayed true to who I am
Burn, burn, burn
They used to yell
You thought I was coal
My friend, I’m gold
Can’t you tell?
Burn, burn, burn
They used to yell
You thought I was coal
My friend, I’m gold
Can’t you tell?
‘Cause I’m not weak, I’m not broken, I am bold
And the fire you put me through turned me into gold
I’m not done, I’m no loser
Watch me take on my bright future
Tonight I’m no bronze I’m no silver
You’ll be thinking, damn I knew her
But you didn’t
Don’t get it twisted
Out of the ashes you buried me in
I, I am golden
I, I am golden
The fire that you tried to burn me with, it made me who I am
All the things that you said I couldn’t do
Guess what, yes I can
The fire that you tried to burn me with, it made me who I am
All the things that you said I couldn’t do
Guess what, Yes I can
‘Cause I’m not weak, I’m not broken I am bold
And the fire you put me through turned me into gold
I’m not done, I’m no loser
Watch me take on my bright future
Tonight I’m no bronze I’m no silver
You’ll be thinking damn I knew her
But you didn’t
Don’t get it twisted
Out of the ashes you buried me in
I, I am golden
I, I am golden, golden, gold
I, I am golden, golden, golden
