Halloween Photoshop Assignment

What are some things that were challenging?

One aspect of this assignment that I found challenging was seeking the location of the different tools. Although I was very grateful for the tutorial video, it was slightly confusing as my screen did not mirror the screen shown in the demonstration. I was able to solve this problem my using my search bar to find the desired tools.

Another obstacle that I overcame during this assignment was the transfer of my photo onto the background. While I had no problem cutting out myself, the transfer to the second layer caused an issue. The photo of me was too large and when transferred onto the background, both photo’s became difficult to manipulate. I tried using the suggested “ALT + T” to resize my photo however, either through user error or the differences in my computer controls, I was unable to shrink my photo. Soon after I noted the “Show Transform Controls” button which did exactly what “ALT + T” should have done. I was then able to easily resize my photo and place it on the background.

What are some things that worked well?

One tool in Photoshop that was very easy to work with was the Quick Selection Tool. In the tutorial video, the Quick Selection Tool was made to look extremely easy to use. I was happy to discover that for someone who has never used Photoshop before, it was just as straightforward as expected.

As mentioned above, the tutorial video was a very helpful tool in learning how to use Photoshop. This assignment would have taken me a lot longer than it did if I did not have access to the tutorial; therefore, for simplicity and time saving reasons, I am grateful to have had such straightforward directions.

What did you learn? How can you apply this?

During this process I learned not only how simple Photoshop can be, but also that it has many more features than I knew existed; features that allow us to “face tune” as well as change the colours and hues in our images. I believe that there are many opportunities to use Photoshop both outside and in school. Outside of school, students can enhance their social media platforms by putting together sharp and unique images. In school, Photoshop may be used for projects such as vision boards, collages, infographics and advertising for school campaigns. Overall, I believe that Photoshop can and should be another tool that students have in their tool belts to enhance their learning and comfort levels in this ever changing technological world.
