Some of the shading and stuff has trouble loading but it is there.

How did I choose what equations to use?

I had a sheet from early on in the year that showed the shape of the majority of the functions, so I referred to that a fair bit. Otherwise I would just plug in one of the functions that I knew I would need to use in order to meet the criteria and then manipulate the function until it matched a line that I had decided was similarly shaped. Plenty of experimentation.

What challenges did I come across?

Keeping everything organized. What a nightmare. At least I managed to develop a bit of a system with the folders to keep things from getting too cluttered. Once I separated the inequalities from the folders with the rest of the functions, it started to look a lot tidier.

I also tried to invest some time into learning how to use desmos to it’s full extent before really starting in the hopes that I might make life easier for myself in the long run. Early on, I experimented with making things like ellipses into functions of (x,y) and transforming the shapes with function notation but it was a bit of a pain in the neck and I ended up wasting a chunk of time when I was trying to save myself some of the hassle.

I also forgot to add any radical functions, so I had to replace a function with one once I had already finished.

Any aha moments?

Deciding to listen to jazz while working. My productivity immediately skyrocketed.

In a math/desmos sense, I don’t think I was struck with any game-changing progress at any point. It was just a steady learning curve for the first week or so, and then from that point forward I felt like I fully had the hang of things.

Where did I find help?

I got the most help from the internet. When it came to rotating functions, shading, custom colours, etc., google was the first place I went, and I was never disappointed by the answers I got. It also probably didn’t hurt to be sitting at the same table as a couple of people who aren’t too bad at math, as they were sometimes helpful.

What strategies did I use?

When I noticed a function’s shape could be used more than once with few transformations outside of vertical or horizontal shifts, I would just define it as a new function and slap those translations onto it to make the new functions for those repeated shapes. Saved a fair bit of time that way, and made my life somewhat easier when it came to the shading.

How did this assignment help me understand more about transformations of functions and relations?

While working on this project, I spent a fair few hours staring at functions, manipulating them to my exact desires, which means that the knowledge of how to transform functions has been deeply and involuntarily burned into my mind. I think that by actively applying the knowledge I had on the transformations of functions (in a more hands-on way), I have developed a deeper understanding on the subject, which should be expected when someone spends a lot of time practicing something.

Theseus and Hippolyta are two members of royalty preparing for their wedding. A man named Egeus enters with his daughter, Hermia, and two men, Lysander and Demetrius. Egeus wants Hermia to marry Demetrius, but she has no interest in such a marriage, preferring Lysander. Theseus decides to support Egeus’ choice for Hermia to marry Demetrius. Believe it or not, Hermia doesn’t take the news very well, so she and Lysander decide to leave Athens and elope. Hermia tells Helena, a friend, about their plans, who spills the beans to Demetrius because she likes him and hopes to gain favour with him. Lysander and Hermia leave into the forest, followed by Demetrius, who is trailed by Helena. Meanwhile, in the same forest, is a troupe of craftsmen who are practicing for a play that they will be performing at Theseus’ wedding. Among them is a man named Nick Bottom, a very conceited fellow. Also in the forest, Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of the fairies, are having a spat over a child they found. Titania currently has custody of the child, so Oberon throws a bit of a fit and decides to get revenge on his wife. He sends his servant, Puck, to get his hands on the juice from a magical flower that makes people fall in love with the first person they see. Puck gets the juice and returns to Oberon, who tells him to apply it to Titania. He adds that Puck should apply it to Demetrius too, because Oberon had noticed him mistreating Helena despite her affection. Puck applies the juice to Titania and takes the creative liberty of changing the head of Nick Bottom, who was nearby, into that of a donkey’s, knowing that Titania would see him upon waking up and fall in love with him. While trying to find Demetrius, Puck finds Lysander, and thinking that he was the one he was supposed to target with the juice, applies it to him. What ensues is a big mixup that ends up with the two young men being enamored with Helena, who is confused and thinks they are mocking her, and makes Hermia jealous of her. At this point, Titania has also awoken to Bottom with his donkey head, and is treating him to every luxury, which he, in his vanity, doesn’t think is odd at all. Oberon ends up getting what he wants with the child, and tells Puck to fix everything, which he does. Titania’s love is reverted, Bottom loses the donkey head, Lysander and Hermia are now together, and Demetrius now reciprocates Helena’s love. The lovers are found by Egeus and Hippolyta, and they are all married to their suitable partners. After the wedding, Bottom and his crew perform their play-within-a-play, which goes down famously with the crowd, and the play concludes with Puck imploring that the crowd remember the events of the play as nothing more than a dream.

About Me

About Me

My name is Kellen Hynes, I’m a grade 9 student at Riverside Secondary.

Here are some things that make me happy.

“If what you’ve done is stupid, but it works, then it really isn’t all that stupid.” – David Letterman

Letterman is incredibly intelligent. Very knowledgeable and very sharp. The most clever bit of his shtick though, is that he’s smart enough to realise that it’s a lot easier to make people laugh when you’re the dumb guy. Funny guy.

Norm MacDonald is my favourite comedian of all time. Never fails to make me laugh.

Laurent Koscielny scores stunning overhead kick against Southampton - Daily Star

Laurent Koscielny is one of the most underrated defenders to play during my lifetime. This picture gets me fired up because he has been one of my favourite soccer players and I remember when he scored this filthy goal.

I’m not goin to leave you hanging on the goal by the way. You’ve got to see it.

Digital Footprint

If you post something without thinking, it is possible that a future employer will view it as a poor reflection on your personality or work ethic, and you could struggle to get Footprints in the Mud a job. On the other hand, if you have nothing negative, or something positive in your digital footprint, it will reflect positively on you, and can help you out in getting a job or something like that in the future.

To avoid posting something you might regret, you should think before you post. That is really the most important thing you can do, but another way to maintain a safe digital footprint is to use a different name online than your actual name. The last thing I can recommend is to try to mess around with your privacy settings so not just anybody can see what you post.

I don’t think I’ve really learned anything yet from this course, and I don’t exactly go about discussing with my friends how to “stay safe online” per say, but if I did, I would probably tell them to think before they post, use a pseudonym online, and put their accounts on private.
