Video Game Blame
Video games lock people in
Nobody wants to leave
Nobody can leave
They can help people
They can change people
Change people in many ways
Not only in negative ways
But in positive ways too
They aren’t as bad as you think
People say you don’t blink
When you play video games

A skeleton decoration was getting tired of Halloween. He was getting tired of constantly doing his skeleton dances. A dog magically came out of one of the graves, the dog had a bright shiny nose. The dog was Jack’s best friend. Sadly, jack didn’t notice him, that mad the dog sad. Jack noticed three huge wooden doors. Jack fell into a place called Christmas town. Jack felt no longer haunted, he always wanted this feeling. He took the present filled stocking, all the candy and toys on the shelves, he took a picture of Santa and all his elves. He took everything that sparkled or glowed. He brought all the things he stole back to Halloween. He wanted to take over Christmas and spread cheer instead of fear. They shoved Santa into a sack. Blackout Poetry Reflection Paragraph
I really liked making these blackout poems as I found it fun trying to find different words and combine them into a poem. They didn’t help me form opinions about current events in our world as I made my poems more about random things. While making these poems, I didn’t read what the text said, I just looked for words that would work. Questions what we hear, read, and view contributes to our ability to be educated and engaged citizens is the biggest idea of English Language Arts 9 that I used. There were not a lot of challenges I ran into while creating these Blackout poems. One of the challenges I did run into was finding the right words in the right order to make my poems sound and flow nicely.
The Cremation of Sam McGee
Critical Thinking Questions
You know that theme is the message the author wants you, the reader, to walk away from this poem with. What is the message/theme Robert Service is trying to share with you? Be able to support your theme with evidence from the poem.
The theme that this poem is representing is, Sam was determined to mine gold, he would do it at any cost. I have chosen this as the theme because he was determined to go and get some gold. He left his warm hometown and warm home to go to the Arctic and mine some gold.
“Why he left his home in the South to roam ’round the Pole, God only knows.”
“And that very night, as we lay packed tight in our robes beneath the snow”
What does this passage mean to you, “In the days to come, though my lips were dumb, in my heart how I cursed that load!”
The meaning that this quote has for me is that people can do anything they want if they try hard enough. Even though they are hurting, they can still do what they want to do.
In your opinion, why didn’t Cap go back on his promise? Sam would have never known!
I think that Cap cared about Sam and wanted to stick to their promise. He respects Sam and wanted to keep that respect. If he didn’t keep his promise, he probably wouldn’t be able to live with himself knowing he isn’t capable of keeping promises.
What really happened when Cap opened that boiler? Did he really see the ghost of Sam? Was he hallucinating? What do you think, and why do you think this?
I think that Cap was hallucinating because maybe he cared about Sam and didn’t want to accept that he was gone.
Here is our English 9 short story film. The sniper
While editing this video, we created the emotional setting by adding music in the background. We used props to create more of a physical setting. For one of our characters, we used clothes to make it look like it was an old lady. For the intro, we had soldiers fighting and then the camera went to face the sniper. For the initiating incident, the sniper decided to risk a smoke. Right away a bullet flew by his head. For the rising action, the sniper spotted an armoured car turning around the corner. For the climax, the sniper got shot in his arm. For the falling action, the sniper shot the enemy sniper in the head with his revolver. For the conclusion, we had the sniper go down and figure out that the enemy was his brother. There could be many themes for this film, I think it was that war is bad and life is unfair. For this project, I filmed and edited the film. I think I filmed very well. I didn’t shake a lot while filming. I could have edited the film better. As a group, we did very well comunicating our ideas and suggestions. We worked very well together.
