Looking back at what happened to the Black society it makes me sick to my stomach. No human should ever be treated as poorly as the slaves were. I have been taught to treat everyone with respect and as an equal. Racism to me should not exist, just because your skin is a different colour, it does not mean that you are a different person. Why are we treating someone different just because they look different? Racism is still a huge issue in today’s society. There are hate laws put into place but that doesn’t stop people from discrimination. Just like it was back in the 1800-1900 there are many hate groups that are made to hurt (physically and emotionally), this includes the KKK. Slavery has been abolished and blacks now have equal rights and freedom so life is better for them, but they are still sometimes viewed as different. Many white people see black people as more violent and aggressive. They are more likely to be charged more harshly at court or by a judge. They are also 9x more likely to be a VICTIM of homicide. Many people influenced the way people see black people for the better including; Rosa Parks, Malcom X, and The Black Panther Party. Martin Luther King Jr. made a huge difference for black lives and equal rights. He was an amazing mentor with an amazing legacy that he left behind. Racism is a terrible thing that is still at large. I do not believe that people should be treated different just because they look different. I’m sure everyone has heard this 1 million times already but I’ll say it again. It’s what’s on the inside that counts.
Grade 10
Confederation reflection
1. I Represent the PEI colony
2. The biggest and most important issues for our colony were trading and transportation. Because wen are an island we are very isolated and would like the chance to find new ways of trading and transportation. Another isssue for us was debt.
3. Our group came up with having a ferry system be out in place between the colonies in order to deal with our trading and transportation issue.
4. We agreed to paying 5% of the railway if the Newprovince payed 15% for the ferry terminal. We also teamed up with New Brunswick lots to agree on forms of voting and government so we would both be happy and hopefully win the voting for the preposals we wanted if we worked together.
5. We are happy the the debate because we are getting a ferry terminal, Navy and army protection at a lower percentage cost than we originally thought we would pay. We are also happy with the form of government we have, Representation by delegation is the best option for us because of out low population.
6. I wish that we would be more secure with our money and debt. With us having such a low population it is very easy for us to go into debt and when talking with the other groups none of them said they would help us cover our debt because then they would have to pay more money and raise their taxes more as well.
Plenty questions
1. At the beginning of the poem I would describe the poets moods as positive, peaceful, and optimistic. There is a change in the poem when he describes the leaves in the gutter and how if he told the girl at he IGA what he thought about how she looked it would just be creeps and the mood then turns sound more fake and sarcastic.
2. The details in he similes “everything in beautiful today, like the leaves in the gutter, salt stains in shoes” are more interesting because in most of these examples like leaves in a gutter, salt stains, and a storm, many people would view these things as unpleasant and something that we wouldn’t view as beautiful. This is also the time when he time changes because he starts to sound more sarcastic and he doesn’t really view these things as being beautiful.
3. The poet uses these similes to compare something that many people wouldn’t find very appealing and then compares it to something that is beautiful. The poet also uses the word beautiful in most of his similes and with the amount of times that he uses the word it gives it a false sense and make sound more sarcastic the more he uses it. He uses similes to elaborate on all that he says to give the reader a better understanding of what he is talking about, he has elaborated to much that it is at a point where is sounds fake now.
4. At the beginning of the poem the poet is describing the sky as he walked out of his front door. In this moment I think he was feeling very peaceful and rejuvenated. As he’s walking down the street he is describing the leaves in the gutter and the salt stains on shoes as beautiful. When he is describing these things as beautiful the tone starts to change because he starts to sound a little more sarcastic because what he is describing isn’t really beautiful. After the grocery store he is outside and is describing he beautiful storm that he can see coming. The poet is using alliteration and his mood while writing this could be describes as smug. He has used the world beautiful so many times that it now doesn’t sound like he means is, instead he is sounding sarcastic. On his journey from the IGA he is watching the people around him and he describes them as looking lovely but saying unpleasant things. This gave the mood that he is mocking them. He views that the world we live in is beautiful on the inside and out, we may look beautiful but on the inside we really aren’t. We don’t appreciate everything the world has to offer so we stick out. He poets main point is that people are fake
