1. DEFINE and DISCOVER
The problems:
✰ Hard to memorize ✰ Hard to read ✰Not enough color, making students unmotivated to use the periodic table. ✰ Looks bland |
The challenges:
✰ Changing the periodic table, keeping in mind the elements and symbols ✰ The fact that elements can change from solid, liquid and gas. This may cause problems when color-coding. ✰ Filing the spaces when moving the elements around the table |
2.DREAM
Big Ideas
o Alphabetical order o A different shape o Keep the color-coding technique o Colour coding gas, liquid, and solids. o Putting metals that are on the bottom with other metals on top, then putting the non-metals on the bottom |
What info does the periodic table tell us? o It tells us about the element (metal/non-metal, atomic number) 0 It has the atomic number tells you how many protons are in the element, which tells you the number of electrons. |
3.DESIGN and DELIVER
We planned to make a cube that had the periodic table elements in it. Then we decided to color coordinate the elements based on if they were liquid, solid or gas and made a legend. Here’s the finished product:
4.DEBRIEF
When we were making our cube there were some challenges in the way because at one point we were missing some elements for solids then we found them and fixed the problem.
