(Harbans interview from Aryzta)

A few weeks ago I decided to interview my mom’s close friend and co-worker at Aryzta. I wanted to interview Harbans because she is a  very hard working woman and she is great at what she has done. I would like to be a baker because I am very passionate about the art of how I can design my food and sell it and see how I can make a person’s day with my art on a  piece that I made from scratch.  When I first got this project the first person that came to mind was my friend’s mom from work Harbans. Then I emailed her the questions for her to answer. I learned about the responsibilities that it takes to be in her position at work.  Asking these questions and getting a response gave me a better insight into what I want to become once I graduate out of school. Here are the things that Harbans said:

1. Why are you passionate about your job?

I get along with a lot of my co-workers, helping with the task ahead and be satisfied at the end of the day with the work that I did during the day. I also love the baking part of my job because of the beautiful creation I make for people.

2. What obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today? 

English was my second language so that was a big obstacle when I first started working at Aryzta I also had to learn how to read but it’s been 24 years and I got the hang of it. ☺︎

3. What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?

I would tell them to be humble, patient and be kind to one another. You need to be very patient when it comes to my job because when I bake it takes a long time for the product to get fully cooked and ready to eat especially when the ingredients are different than usual and sometimes hard to work with.

5. Did you have any outside help/advice from others when choosing your career?

Yes, I did have help from my friend Silvia (Karla’s mom) she helped me when I first started working at Aryzta.

6. What schooling did you have to do to get where u are today? 

I went to BCIT to get where I am today I did a lot of studying and hard work to get where I am today.
