Week 7 in Pre-Calculus 11

This week in math, we learned about a new formula that can be used to determine what kind of solution you will get from a quadratic equation. The discriminant does not solve a quadratic, but it can help you avoid attempting to solve an equation with no solutions.

The formula for the discriminant is also a part of the formula for a quadratic equation:

*highlighted = the formula to find the discriminant*

If the discriminant is positive, the quadratic will have two solutions, if the discriminant is zero, the quadratic will have no solutions and if the discriminant is negative, the quadratic will have no solutions.

The discriminate is also a good method to check your answers if you solve the quadratic first.
