Power Information Fluency

Electrical Cars VS Gas Powered Car?

Dear Justin Trudeau,

I have been looking into electric cars and gas powered cars. I have discovered many interesting thing about both cars, like what one is better and how they run, ect. First of all I found out what is the difference between the cars. I found that one main difference is that the electric cars has one moving part (the motor) and the gas powered cars has over hundreds of moving parts to make the car run. Also there would be less maintenance on the electric cars than gas cars so it would be cheaper to fix the electric cars.  There has been some studies done for if electric cars are good for the environment and they have showed that the amount of use of greenhouse gasses have gone down since using electric cars. When using gas cars there is twice the amount of pollution compared to electric cars. So saying that gas cars are not the best for the environment is because it uses more greenhouses gases and makes carbon dioxide and creating a lot more pollution.  From this information those are some reasons that are not good about using gas cars. When releasing the greenhouse gasses it is making the earth more warmer over time. So I would say that overall the electric cars are better for the environment. Some of the benefits of using electric cars are it is better for the environment, cheaper to maintain, cheaper to run, using electrity is cheaper than using gasoline, and they are more quiet than gas cars. The average price of an electric car is around $55,600 and the average price for a gas powered car is around $31,000. The electric car is more than a normal gas powered car, but you also don’t have to spend money every time to fill up your car will gas. So overall I think that electric cars are better. First when you are using an electric car you are using less greenhouse gases. Second when you are using a electric car you are using 2 times less of pollution if you were to use a normal gas car. So in my opinion I think that we should be using more electrical cars than gas powered cars. By doing this I think that we will have a better outcome with less pollution and greenhouse gases and it will make the earth better.

1.What questions did you need to research in order to research your topic?

  • What is different about gas powered car and electric powered cars?
  • Are electric cars good for the environment?
  • How does the electrical cars work?
  • What is the cost of an electrical car vs a gas powered car?
  • What is the not good about using gas powered cars?
  • what are the benefits for electrical cars?
  • What are the benefits for gas powered cars?
  • What is better gas powered cars or electric powered cars?
  • How does gas powered cars affect the environment?

2. What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?

I will  use my laptop to help me research what I need to learn about my topic and I will be able to record the information. Also I will be posing the final copy on my edublog account. And I will be using some of the good sources that I have used in the past on other projects.

3. What was the process you need to investigate the topic?

First I had to research my topic to learn about it and had to make sure I was using reliable sources that I was getting the information from. Then I had to write up a letter to Justin Trudeau about my topic on electric cars and

gas cars. Then with that information I already had learned about I had to answer the second part of the project the review questions.

4. How did you verify and cite the information you found?

When I was looking for my information on my project on electrical cars and gas powered cars. I would not just go on one site I would check more to make sure the information I was finding was true. Also I would make sure the cites that I was using were reliable and had good information for my research. When I was going on the sites I would make sure to record it for the bibliography.

5. How did the process of completing the challenge go? What  could you have done better?

I think that overall that the  project went good and I was able to find lots of information. I got to learn a lot about electric cars and gas powered cars like what is better for the environment, and what is just a better car. Also I think it will help me out for when I am older to decide if I should get an electric car or a gas powered car. I think I could off done better on part 2 with adding more in  depth with my answers. also I could have added more pictures in with the writing.

  1. Excellent information fluency post. I really like how you have found some great sub-questions to lead you to get a well-rounded perspective on your topic. You have done a great job citing your sources. Don’t forget to share about your use of digital tools such as Gale Engage Learning and Citation Machine. Good debrief on your product and process as well!
