Santa Math Art with Desmos

Here is my Santa math art I created using desmos and these are the equations I used to create it. I started off by making a oval head with the x squared + y squared relation. I played around with the numbers to make it the shape and size that I wanted. I did the same thing for the eyes, positioning them where I wanted. I also filled them in by changing the = symbol to a < symbol. I used parabolas to create the nose, mouth, and part of the beard. For the straight line on the beard I used a linear function and made the y-intercept match with the top of the parabola. I also used a linear function for the bottom of Santa’s hat. For the top of his hat I used the absolute function because I knew that it would be able to make that “V” shape.

When I first started this I found it extremely challenging and didn’t know where to start. But after a while of experimenting and trying different functions/relations I realized that all it took was knowledge of the basic functions and then the rest was just adjusting the numbers to make things the right shape, size and in the right position on the graph.
