If a time warp placed you back at the first day of your project, what would you do differently the second time around? Explain and expand.
If I was time warped to the first day of my project, I would definitely take a more proactive approach to my capstone. I was going through school with the thought process of having all the time in the world. That didn’t help when school got shut down due to COVID-19. At the beginning of quarantine I was expecting capstone to actually be cancelled and due to that I did not get anything done, until we were given the news that capstone wasn’t cancelled. I had to rush because I did not have anything ready and due to that the quality of my capstone suffered. If I knew everything that I know now I would definitely stop my procrastination and change my thought process to create and polish my capstone to the best of my abilities. I would email Ms. Roberge to get more than one interview so I could have different perspectives from different actors. Since this would be the time before quarantine, I would be recording footage of the inner workings for Chicago to get more insight in how productions work behind the scenes and I would be looking to interview my fellow peers who are looking into pursuing acting as their future career and compare the differences between the experienced actors and up and coming actors. With this newfound knowledge and plan of my capstone, I would definitely be happier with final product than I am now.
Describe a time throughout your Capstone Journey that you encountered a roadblock or setback; how did you handle/manage it AND what did you learn from that experience?
Looking back there are many times where I encountered a roadblock those times would include when I had to focus on the production of Chicago and keeping up with my schoolwork which didn’t leave me anytime to work on my Capstone. However that was easily fixed with switching my presentation date to April instead of January which I would say gave me enough time to work on my Capstone. Unfortunately I did not take advantage of this which would be a great problem in the future. Another roadblock would be quarantine. I believed capstone would have been cancelled because of quarantine. Due to that thought process I did not do any work at all on my capstone, even to go as far as forgetting about it. I should have still worked on my capstone even though there was a possibility that capstone would be cancelled because there is still a probability that it wouldn’t be cancelled and if I still worked on it for a little bit I would have been better prepared to continue it after hearing the news about capstone not being cancelled. I had to rush most of my work and I was starting to worry when Ms. Roberge hasn’t gotten to me back with the interview until there was only a few days left until capstone was due. I was able to handle everything in the end but with the drawback of it not being to the quality that I liked. I should have prepared everything and I should have been ready for any scenario. In the future I would definitely remember how my attitude and lack of preparation really hurt the end product of my capstone and would be facing future projects with a better attitude and better work ethic.
What advice would you give Grade 11’s so they can have a successful and personally meaningful Capstone project?
Nearing graduation, I have learned a lot throughout my years in high school. Looking back the best advice I would give to the Grade 11’s is to prepare, prepare, prepare. It’s better to be over prepared and have an easier time working on your project than have nothing prepared and suffer because of it. Another piece of advice is to just be yourself, because when you’re presenting your capstone the teacher would be looking at the content and would be checking if the content of your capstone matches you as a person or not. If you want to try and create a meaningful Capstone look back at your high school experience and see what courses you’ve taken, that will give you an idea on what you can pursue in the future if you have not already decided on it. You need to also show that you can improve and that you can adapt and overcome any obstacle you come across. If you are able to show that then the teacher will know you can improve your core competencies skills. When you pick a topic the most important thing above everything I’ve said before is passion. Passion triumphs all, if you could show your teacher just how much passionate you are about this career choice then basically 80% of your capstone is done and you are that much closer to making a successful and meaningful capstone project.
