After looking at quite a few sources, the countries all have something in common. They all have set government policies that encourage people to recycle, by making it more convenient, putting more funds for recycling and, financial incentives. They also have targets and objectives for local governments.
A good example is Scotland whose government came up with a plan in 2010 called the Zero Waste Plan. It included pre-sorted waste collection and local authorities providing households with recycling, collection and waste treatment services. Scotland also banned the burning of dense plastics and metals and also introduced a separate set of rules for food waste recycling.
We need to be able to change peoples behaviour by making it more convenient than just simply throwing it out regularly, maybe a fine? I’m sure there are better ways to convince people to recycle.
